“It was just one of those games,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. “Ryan wasn’t real sharp, and I thought we made some poor plays defensively that might have made a difference had we executed the right way. We also had several hard-hit balls that were lined right at somebody, but that’s the nature of baseball. We have to turn the page and look forward to the chance of winning this series tomorrow.

If Nola is on and it is close, i venture to say we may see some signs of the kind of heart needed to win the CWS.

I thought that we had a pretty good chance of getting swept so a win tomorrow is HUGE!! No one in thier right mind thought we would sweep.

At this point and against this competition a win is important but it is important for the team to continue to build the identity that they bounce back, fight hard, and can beat everyone. That can be built even in a loss tomorrow but a win against a team with an strong offense shows they beat teams with pitching and with hitting. They beat everyone. That is the goal that builds a CWS champion.

"never give up. never surrender" Galaxy Quest

the best thing about baseball is that you can come back from any deficit. get a hit. get on base. "save me an at bat".

And even if we don't win tomorrow, the season is far from over.

On the road against a good and hot UK team.. Can't ask for much more.

2-3 just like against UF on the road would be great.

There was an awesome comment that Hanagriff said Cousino said after his 5 strikeout performance on Friday. He was asked what could be worse than striking out 5 times in a game. His answer was a classic. He said "I could have had another at bat". Kudos to that kid for coming back strong from a 5K performance with a huge day.

It wasn't just one of those games. They made some crucial errors. Denial is for losers.

Just like the UF game/series. Lets hope we win today! The team knows they can do it!

And Paul Manieri addressed that in his quote.

Nobody is denying that there are issues. Tell us how to be winners please. We're all ears (eyes).

Seems like coach admitted the errors: "I thought we made some poor plays defensively that might have made a difference..." What more is he suppose to say?

Right. What part of "one of those games" doesn't cover bad d? Pitching sucked. Hitting sucked. Fielding sucked. An all three combined for only one loss.

I can remember one of Skip's teams getting swept in Lexington by a much worse Kentucky team.

I realize we live in a world of the sound-bite and the now, but I think more than not see this for what it is...one game. Now if this happens a few more times in a short period, then you have something else. But I don't see that happening with the pitching we have.

If the game full of crucial errors is an outlier in an otherwise clean sample set, then I most certainly think that "just one of those games" is the correct label.

+1

even with a loss today, we are 1 game back from first place. We currently have such a large lead in the west, another sweep can literally lockup the west. It will be nice to win the regular season championship, but we are lsu... That doesn't mean shite for us in baseball. Plus, a 2 seed in the tourney is as good as 1, and PM always prepares his teams well for the sec tourney even if we are to win the regular season championship. That's what I love about PM. Like skip, he understands the importance of momentum in CB and when to peak. This team hasn't come close to peaking, imo. There's too much room for improvement.
