Is this for real? So what does that mean?
Yes, but not Congress. It means just what you typed. Not everyone in the legislature is friendly to LSU.

Do you simply believe everything you read?

Anyone who reduces this fiasco to this explanation does not have all the facts nor understand how this failed negotiation went down.

It really is not important at this point. We have to be realistic and move on.

I doubt seriously that Alleva will ever be allowed to negotiate a football head coach hire alone again at LSU.

They can and often do have a significant effect

That's not what's being said. It's more about King's frame of mind and fear as a fundraiser.

I'm not saying that we can't spend money as we see fit (especially considering that the Athletic Dept raises its own money); however, to say that there's no validity to King Alexander's concern (assuming it's true) about this looking bad is just incredibly naive. Would you have a problem with someone driving a BMW and using food stamps? That's King's concern. On the academic side of the institution, LSU was/is pretty close to needing food stamps. If they raised and spent $15 million+ to get rid of a coach that's won 77% percent of his games, that's not a great look in the eyes of some. That's in the realm of driving a BMW on the athletic side while you're broke in the rest of the institution.

Again, I'll concede that the academic fundraising side and athletics are technically separate, but to say there's no association or that the perception wouldn't be a problem is just ridiculous.

Exactly. If we were going 6-6 the last few years, that's one thing. But if we win the bowl game, that's 10 wins with the McNeese game.

The only way LSU was liable for 15 mil is if Les couldn't find someone to employ him.

Maybe Alexander knew nobody else wanted our coach?

and that's another thing that the regular public doesn't get, the off-set of another job.
