This is a great day for LSU even though he used us to get another shot. Last season he wasn't even thought of as being a DC again

Miles is a lame duck coach. You can't blame any coach for looking out for his own best interests and apparently Steele feels he has more years with Malzhan than the very possible 1 with Miles. The Miles Factor will obviously be something LSU has to overcome in it's pursuit of a new DC.

Nothing takes care of trepidation like cold hard cash.

What quality DC is coming to coach one year for a lame duck?

LSU could decide to guarantee someone three years at 1.2 million. That would field a great bit of interest. Go look at the assistant compensation database. I think people on here assume most coaches in the country make that kind of money because LSU pays it. Basically nearly half of the top 20 in scoring defense this year make significantly less than that.

Malzahn has another year even remotely close to last season and he is a dead duck coach... he is in a worse situation than Miles. Geeeez guys, Keep up!

You are saying that the fact that his brother is there, the fact that he can qualify for an Alabama state pension by working there and the fact that the situation is so sour there that Coach Boom couldn't wait to get out have nothing to do with the decision?

But I'm sure they add a Les Miles' clause to it, just the same as they wanted to do with Chavis.

You asked a question, I gave you the answer. If LSU wants someone good, they can get him. Just like in everything else, you have to want it enough that you will pay more than the other organization.

The problem is your answer is unlikely to happen. They're not going to guarantee a DC remains on salary if Les is tossed. So we're back to square one.
