Welters responsibility was the running back. Deion Jones was the QB. He went the wrong way on play not Welter.

Dude... Debo was split out wide man up on the slot WR.

I've been a bigger fan of Martin than most for a few years,,, I just didn't see him making mistakes this weekend. I actually thought Martin played really well and saved us from giving up some big gains.

I'm right here with you Ed... Martin is 2nd on the team in tackles and leads the team in PBUs and passes defended. He gets a lot of shite on here and most of it is not warranted.

Jeez.... Didn't know a harmless / funny gif would hurt your feelings so much... And my post was 99% solid info, I'll get rid of that gif.

I'm not one to bash players so I'm glad yall handled it for me.
Yet you come into this thread and post more then once on Welter's play and even get a chuckle out of how the young man is treated by all these great LSU fans. I feel bad for the guy because of the way he's treated on this board and the fans bad-mouthing him should be ashamed of the way they treat one of our student athletes.

Man, you should be our D-coordinator... Screw Chief...
he would have to pull a number and wait in line - there are several well qualified D-coordinators on the rant this weekend.

Correct...that is why I pointed out that it is based on the blocking that he read. This is based on the fact that he likely read the block of the OG correctly...which was a reach block.

This also assumes that is Chavis' scheme. I do not know how Chavis coaches his LB's to handle reach blocks, but it is most common to teach it in the way I described.

I also was not defending either Welter or Bower. It could have been either of their responsibilities. Also, I am not sure how assignments change based on the spread/read option attack as I never played against that attack. I have read most assignments remain the same however on reach blocks.

It's the same stupid defense they ran against MSU that got TDs or huge plays for them multiple times.

It's either stupid coaching (which I doubt) or our MLB has no idea where he is supposed to line up.

Welter is not talented enough athletically to make those types of mistakes. Furthermore, because he is not talented, he has to guess a ton, and in that process (like on this play) guesses completely wrong.

People saying he's covering the back out of the backfield are idiots. The DB had the back in that play and it was clearly obvious when the DB actually covered the back.

NMSU saw exactly what MSU did and exploited it, because Wetler has no business being on the field. The kid tries hard, bless his heart, but he's not good enough to be playing for almost 1.5 seasons on this defense, much less starting that time.

Yeah there is no way Debo had qb responsibilty on this play.
