CJJ is doing a pretty good job of recruiting and the PMAC is still pretty much a morgue on most game days, so I'm not quite buying that rationalization.

Now, I'm still a bit skeptical of some aspects of his program outside of recruiting, but talent sure makes up for a lot.

Whatever mitigating circumstances one puts on Nikki's recruiting, bottom line...she's falling way short in that dept.

What is this the state of LSU WBB???? I look around and see Dawn Staely at SC loading up on talent, HS recruits and now high profile transfers. This past season Caldwell and staff has only signed 2 player out of HS. Ayanna Mitchell she is ranked 64 overall on espn and Shanice Norton she's not even ranked on any recruiting sites and her Youtube highlights don't really look like a SEC caliber player. I know darn well we can bring top 20 prospects to LSU WBB. Lets move on to transfers now we got Tatum Neubert umm 6'2 post another undersize post, in the SEC smh not going to work, she only averaged 2pts a game at Oregon. Then we get Chole Jackson from NC State, I've heard good things about her so who knows. We're still one assistant down, This spot should of been filled months ago. So this is my rant on LSU wbb, Nikki Caldwell is a GREAT coach but her recruiting strategy is going to cause her to be jobless.

I cannot disagree with much of this.^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The one thing Nikki has proven to be is a good Xs and Os coach. What she fall woefully short with is the recruiting. We're not horrible by any stretch of the imagination. Her track record while here is good. But it is not representative of a top ten program...................but she didn't inherit a top ten program to begin with. Van left the program in shambles when he "left".

The hard part is watching Dawn Staley do what Pokey did for us ten years ago. Her recruiting is phenomenal........she just got a salary bump to $1.1 million...........and they're in the top five in attendance. It would've been interesting to see she and Pokey go head to head on the court and on the recruiting trail. Unfortunately, that's not gonna happen.

I've been a big supporter of Nikki since she got here. But if her recruiting doesn't get better by next season, her contract may not be extended..........or they may only offer her a one year extension, which I would imagine she would decline. Either way, we MUST see some improvement on the recruiting front. Her Xs and Os are good enough. But she needs talent. Without that, I don't see us doing any better than top half of the SEC and sweet sixteens in the NCAA.

The big issue right now is that she needs a center piece recruit. That will more than likely come from within the state to truly jump start the program. The chance for that to "maybe" happen was this year was with Kalani Brown, but Kim Mulkey grabbed her. Most of the talent in the state is more supporting role talent not elite level. But signing one like Seimone, creates the momentum you need. Who knows, it could happen, but I haven't heard of a top ten recruit in the state on the horizon, maybe 2017 Micaela Wilson, who I have seen play this summer. She is good, so we shall see.

OMG. A delusional WBB Sunshine Pumping Sand Header. They're everywhere!

Nikki Caldwell just finished year 4. Has done nothing. She's had her shot and failed. Grossly over paid too. In fact, she's the most grossly overpaid coach in LSU sports history! Recruits like Trent Johnson. Time to cut bait and move on before the program falls even farther behind....

The warning from UCLA fans was that she was a teaser. She'd coachup lesser talent to play just good enough to get your hopes up, but because she and her staff were terrible recruiters she would never bring in good enough talent to move from average/good to good/exceptional.

Seems to have proven to be an accurate prediction so far.

IMO this is her last season. Fine as she is I just don't see it working out for her with the talent on the L Tigers roster.

Its really mind boggling how we cant even bring in a top 25 or 30 class. LSU has a lot to offer, has a good history in WBB. Excellent facilities and everything. Its hard to believe we cant get one or two elite players per class. It makes you wonder what she does for recruiting.

Has she even replaced that other coach who left before last season? She needs to hire a top notch recruiter.

Serious question. What is her recruiting strategy? What does USCe do that LSU doesn't? Does she not hit the road? What's the deal?

It seems like she relies on transfers a lot. This past year, Akilah Bethel and Ann Jones played as transfers. Neither were particularly impactful. This year, a transfer from N. Texas named Alexis Hyder is supposed to be good. She averaged a double-double her last year there. She is 5'11, but looked a bit overweight to be honest. Interesting to see how she performs against SEC competition. For 2016-17 she has a transfer from NC State and one from Oregon (guard and post) ready to come in. So she relies on transfers a good bit it would appear.

Destrehan has a player by the name of Cara Ursin. She just finished her sophomore year(5'7 guard)with serious hops. Hopefully they can land her. She won player of the year. Some info on her..

Athletic achievement: She averaged 26.3 points, 11.5 rebounds and 6.9 steals per game this past season, leading the Wildcats (26-3) to the Class 5A state semifinals. The two-time District 7-5A MVP and Defensive Player of the Year, Ursin was a 2014 Class 5A First Team All-State selection as a freshman. She also posted per-game averages of 4.6 assists and 3.4 blocks this winter. She recorded 19 double-doubles and three triple-doubles and has scored 1,331 points in her prep basketball career.

Unfortunately the poster who posted this has the "chicken vs. the egg" scenario backwards. The fans will not show up until a good product is put on the floor. It has been proven with women's basketball time and again. Attendance was mediocre at best before Seimone Augustus and crew showed up. When Seimone signed and LSU started winning, the fans started basically packing the PMAC. Then Temeka Johnson and Sylvia Fowles got here and we kept winning and going to Final Fours and the fans kept coming. Then, as the talent dropped off in the Van era, the crowds got smaller again...and now they are back to 1990's level because there just isn't a lot of talent on the floor and the fans recognize that.

Put a winner on the floor and the fans will come. Women's BB has done it in the past; gymnastics and softball are doing it now.

Exactly!

Except, Temeka was here before Seimone. ;-)

One of the main reasons they went after her IS the fact that she was doing a very good job recruiting, and had a decent class coming in when she left. Her recruiting at LSU has been almost the complete opposite of what it was at UCLA.........which is baffling. I still believe it's because at UCLA she had an assistant in Staci Terry who was very well connected on the West Coast. Here, she's yet to add an assistant that has proven any prowess on the recruiting trail. IMHO that is what the MAIN problem is.

True...seems hard to believe that Temeka was here first.

If Caldwell isn't careful, she is going to find out what some other coaches at LSU have found out about hiring your best buddies. For a long time, there was a running joke about "BBQ buddies" on this forum, which I totally loathed, but it has some truth.

Gerry DiNardo's undoing? His undying loyalty to Lou Tepper. Tepper stayed; it ended up costing DiNardo his job.

Les Miles has conveniently gotten rid of a couple of bodies that would perhaps eventually cost him his job, notably Peveto/Mallory as offensive coordinators and Strudrawa as OC/O-line coach.

I think Trent Johnson had the potential to be successful but he was attached at the hip to Brent Scott and Donny Guerinoni, two mediocre assistants at best. Look where Johnson is now.

If Caldwell continues to stick by her "bff's" on her coaching staff and doesn't make a quality hire to fill her current assistant vacancy, she may meet a similar ending that DiNardo and Johnson met.

Can't answer this, but recruiting is a sales position, Unless your program sells itself, (Tennessee, Baylor, UCon, Louisville, ND) your recruiters have to be excellent salesmen/saleswomen.

Nikki Caldwell is beginning to resemble the women's version of Trent Johnson. Good enough coach but just can't sell the program to the kids that count. Which in Johnson's case he just didn't connect with this region's kids. Can't imagine that's Nikki's problem being an SEC player and assistant coach with Tenn. I don't know if you can compare a recruiting visit with her radio show, but listening to her on the show leaves something to be desired, I don't know what it is that's missing but she's not selling me on the program hearing her on the radio. Maybe that's an unfair assessment because I listen to the Johnny Jones show also and you can feel the passion and love for LSU basketball coming from that man. You just know he loves his job and gives 100% to the guys he coaches.

Again probably not the best comparison, but that's always stuck out to me.
