He got a promotion to a coaching position. Also let's not act like his loss is the world caving in. His Vermont bio says

I don't know but it must be hard for her to convince mom and dad to let her take their daughter for 4 years when she rides in the driveway on her Harley looking like an outdated biker momma.

This post from craig8sm makes sense. Caldwell seemed to be an up & coming coach while at UCLA and many of us thought or at least, hoped, she would get this program back to the level where it could contend for the Final 4 each season, as it did not so long ago.
She has shown the ability to do fairly well with the X's and O's, but the recruiting has been far below expectations. This could well be her final season at LSU.
