He’s saying this was a good season according to program expectations, regardless of the artificially lowered expectations from the outside world. And I agree. Now upward and onward to next year!

Why does it make someone miserable to point out that at least one key player (and at the very least most likely White as well) from our defense isn't coming back?

You can't say everyone is coming back when those two guys are leaving

But the overall point of your thread is right. This was a good season. Next year needs to be great.

What do you think is more relevant: the opinion of some random rant poster or the opinion of the AP poll?

you're deflecting -- I never said my opinion was more relevant. I'm just giving it since this is, you know, a fan message board.

I've known for decades how absurd the human polls are.

"Anyone who doesn’t think this was a good season is retarded."

Not to beg the question, but how would you define a good season?

Not deflecting. You asked for the other poster's opinion.

I'm merely implying that it's irrelevant. It doesn't matter what he or anyone thinks about the poll or the rank. It is 6th and that is what will be recorded for history.

Frankly, I'm surprised that LSU finished ahead of Florida. But...they did.

LSU entered the season with its lowest preseason ranking in years. They were an underdog in the opener and MANY felt 7 wins were the best reasonable scenario. By ALL measures this was a good season relative to preseason expectations, which were very low. LSU was picked to finish FIFTH in the West, only ahead of two dumpster fires in Ole Miss and Arkansas.

So because people disrespected our coach preseason, this season is better?

We should look at LSU's finish in a vacuum. Preseason rankings should have no bearing on our measures of success.

We were 9-3 in the regular season and should've been 10-2. That is pretty good. We should never be worse than that. Great win against a stacked UGA team. Embarrassing loss to Alabama.

Good season, with a lot of room for improvement.

Itd be hard to imagine someone replicating Tracy, but I like what I see with Cade York. Hopefully there won't be a big dropoff when he shows up on campus

you honestly think we're the sixth best team in the country?

It doesn't matter what I think, it matters what the pollsters think, and I'm ok with that. Guess what? It doesn't matter what you think either, coach.

it was an acceptable season. O isn't destroying the program so i'll give him that. but the next 2 years he really needs to crank it up.

No. The OP's comment was that this was not a good season relative to preseason expectations. Well, preseason expectations from both the national and local perspective were pretty low. Thus, you have to say finishing 6th in the nation is a "good season" STRICTLY RELATIVE to preseason expectations.

However, to say, as the OP did, that it was a good season relative to program expectations is also, IMO, wrong. Presumably, when LSU moved on from Miles it was because they wanted more than 9-10 win seasons. Thus, it's hard to say this was a "good" season when all it did was met a standard that wasn't looked at as good enough 3-4 years ago.

FWIW, I agree with you. Just not the opinion that it somehow wasn't a good season when strictly comparing this season to this season's preseason expectations.

We finished #17 in 2015. This year we finish #6 and win a New Year’s Day bowl. Big difference in those 10-3 records.

Two points:
•Maybe LSU’s wins against unranked teams caused them to be unranked
•The whole “third in the west is bad” thing is wrong. It’s all about national rankings. Bama finished second in the west last year and it worked out for them.

Anyone acting like LSU was still "on the right track" in Miles' last couple of seasons is denying reality. Hardly any impressive wins, mediocre bowls, big recruiting misses, QBs who could not complete a forward pass, an LSU team that was getting booed by its own fans against Jacksonville State in Tiger Stadium...and I could go on.

The 2018 season was demonstrably more successful than anything Miles rolled out in his last couple of years, and the signs are bright for next year. I wish Miles well at KU, but am very glad he is there and not here.

#6 AP Poll,

#7 Coaches Poll...….

When your preseason predictions were #6 in the SEC is a damn good season, PERIOD.
