they will have a decent seed in the ncaa tourney. I think they will be ok.

How about IF we just MAKE the tourney?

A couple of things stand out to me about this team:

1) Martin really needs to develop a back to the bucket game. For someone who can really play above the rim, when he faces his defender and goes at him, he gets ZERO lift off the floor. More times than not, he misses the shot, but b/c he is so athletic he can get his rebound

2) Hickey is much better than Gray. I'm not beating this dead horse

3) The way Odo runs cracks me up.

4) Patterson is really coming along. Needs more PT. Really developing a nice perimeter shot and is a much better on the ball defender than Gray.

5) Quaterman has a really great basketball IQ. Knows when to push it and usually makes great decisions.

The remarkable thing to me is that we rebounded the ball with 3.9 seconds left in regulation, and didn't call our last timeout.
we still would've had to get it down the court and with the way turnovers had been I would've just took it to overtime too.

I posted this in a weird thread, but it is more relevant here...

Last night's loss was painful because teams that have aspirations of making the NCAA tournament do NOT lose games like that. They go on the road and take care of business against a team that is inferior. It is frustrating for the basketball die-hards here who have been with this team for years through thick and thin just waiting for SOMETHING positive to happen…some sign that good things are coming to those who have waited…and what happens? The team once again goes out and steps on its dick. I don't claim to be a know it all about basketball and I don't coach. I am not pointing a finger at anyone specifically…but that game last night should have been a W.

I agree in many ways it is amazing how close the game was. However, it was a bad loss in my opinion. Yes LSU didn't play well, but it was a game LSU should have won.

Very much like the team played out in the PJ, losing two games there they easily could have won. Hopefully they get their minds right come Saturday night at the PMAC or UGA will bounce them out of the gym.

Outside of UF (who went undefeated in SEC play) and Tenn (once again in the SEC opener) UGA was the one team that dominated LSU last year. Twice! They outcoached, outplayed, out-everythinged LSU last season. Most of those guys are back this year. The Mizzou loss sucks, but for me, the UGA game was always going to be the first litmus test in SEC play to see just how good this team really is.

Best thing about last night's loss is it made me feel better about not buying season tickets

Amen.

Johnny Jones is who he is: a Dale Brown disciple. He's an elite recruiter and is one hell of a salesman to the fans, but a pretty mediocre x's and o's guy. I still love the guy and think he's perfect for LSU; maybe even our best option. However, these players want asses in the seats at the PMAC, but frankly they don't deserve a packed house right now.

Watching a 6'4" forward play in major college basketball is just difficult to stomach. classic example that LSU simply isn't back yet, but soon...and I don't know how many times Tac Minor came to mind while watching Gray last night. just awful.

Guess if I said "I've never been a big fan of Johnny Jones" you would say the same thing?

Given you'd already be writing him off this early in his tenure....yeah, probably

The missed free throws and shots are not Trent John..., er, I mean Johnny Jones' fault. We would have won if anyone would have made FTs. It happens.

The lazy play, tired attitudes, and lack of energy, even in the press was not Jones' fault either. It looked like he was trying to get the team to wake up. Ultimately, they are responsible for how they play.

After LSU went up 8, the whole team took a nap.

The lack of timeout makes NO sense. Jones should have called it and set up a play. Tie game and 3 seconds? You can get a good shot off.

NO movement on offense. Everyone standing around. That IS Jones's fault.

Horrible perimeter defense. That is the fault of the players, but Jones has to see it.

The loss is not ALL Jones's fault. Look at what Billy Donovan is saying about his own team. But, Jones has to see these things and make adjustments. Someone has to light a fire. LSU is better than this.

And, the bad thing is that this loss WILL be held against them at tournament time. What a mess.

This whole thread of responses and nobody once talked about the two Mizz. players. Jr. Deuce Bello missed his third consecutive game while suspended, and fresh Montagque Gill-Ceasar sat out with a back injury. That was hard to watch last night. We have the talent, but I believe this is on the coaching. Sad but true.

What we MUST do now:

1. Win our next three games. Won't be easy as UGA is much better than Mizzou and Ole Miss is on the road. At 3-1 in the SEC, we would have worked past losing this game that we should have won.

2. Our away games: Ole Miss, Florida, Vandy, State, Tennessee, A&M, Auburn, and Arkansas. Forget winning at Arkie or UF. 50-50 AT Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Vandy. Best shots at State, Auburn, and A&M. We MUST win MOST of the 50-50 games and at AU and A&M. That would make LSU 5-4 on the road and a very good SEC road record.

3. Our home games: UGA, Carolina, Alabama, UF, Ole MIss, and Tennessee will be hard but each game is a possible win for LSU. I'll say we go 5-1 in those games. That brings us to 10-5.

4. We MUST beat A&M and AU at home. Losing either of those games and all is lost. 2-0 here and we are 12-5.

5. We will certainly lose to UK. Cats will be very ready for us. 12-6.

6. 12-6 would be very good for LSU this year. We would likely get an NCAA bid as a #9 or #10 maybe.

If this is our mentality then we should just settle for a .500 SEC record.

The problem I see with our team is that if you really pay attention, you will notice that our opponents take easier shots than we do. Now to me that is poor coaching.
This is a combo of bad offense and poor defense. What truly puzzles me is that we have a former NBA head coach on staff. There can be zero doubt that musslemen is a great x o guy. You have to wander how much input he truly has for us to be at such a disadvantage on the sideline.

I don't know why I am the only one harping on this, but you can't play your starters all game and not expect this. The job of the game coach is to find time to rest the star players and find combinations that work. I would really like to see Johnny Jones become the first NCAA head coach to turn that over to another coach.

More of a testament to how bad Muzziu is . My guess they don't win 5 more games all year . Horrible loss for us
