re: The preseason No. 6 ranking is hardly disrespectful - but it's just not right.

Man....I get that its something to talk about in a time filled with so much anticipation and anxiety for many diehard, right down to the most casual of football fans....but seriously....how can people get so miffed about preseason rankings that essentially have no purpose other than for people like us to talk about until October...for Gods sake we have a heisman favorite, 18 returning starters, a 3rd year QB with a full season then some of staring experience, a defensive coordinator who very well could end up being the HC of this or any other power five elite program in a few years that will improve an already top five caliber defense, two all SEC wideouts and a backup RB who will all be drafted in the top 3 rounds when all said and done besides LF7, had the early entrant candidates return at every level to lean on plus have aparently landed a few freshmen that will shore up any and every single hole previously perceived as weak spots on an already loaded team that had few to begin with, and oh last but not least we catch Bama at home.... Did I miss anything???? Play like were supposed to and it doesn't matter if we start unranked....I havnt been this sure about a squad down here since 07...and it took 2 triple overtimes and performances from two heisman candidates to seemingly derail the hopes we had then, but (and I still don't know how WVU lost...) The final week gave us new life.... Even in 2011 I was more worried about things that could hurt us long term....add to all this that weve remained relatively healthy (knock on wood) and I'm having trouble seeing us lose 2 and can argue an undefeated season with true confidence unlike many years past. Forget the ranking. Enjoy the splendor that is the hype machine we really are this year going in...cause it will be a couple seasons until we are this complete again. 2017 is loaded if we get the few remaining big names we need and 2018 is starting well already. If all goes right 2019 is again a year like this one, full of real and completely justified promise of NC potential. We could be In the others getting votes section and I couldnt care less.....

Fiutak love the Tigers this year. If Saban, Meyer, or Harbaugh had this exact team they would be the heavy favorites and clear #1.
Meyer had a better team last year than this years Tigers team on paper and were almost a unanimous preseason #1. 1 of the all time heaviest favorites. A team full of high NFL draft picks and didnt win a thing in the Big 3 much less the SEC.
Being ranked #1 and finishing #1 is difficult to do. Maybe has been done 2-3 times in the modern era. Im not sure if Saban has done it with all the #1 classes and championships.
Being 6th is fine, the west champion most likely will be determined when LSU plays Bama. Hard to argue with analyst ranking Bama higher until proven wrong even if Meyer or Harbaugh was coaching LSU.

I agree with your overall point. However, THIS team has never fallen apart. You might say the program or the coaches have fallen, but this team has never existed.
True, very true.

But this is Les Miles' team which is worth dropping the Tigers a couple spots in the rankings if we are being honest.
And to be honest he is the architect of the team. He has been an excellent program manager. He is not the worst Xs and Os guy but not the best by no means. That is why I would put him somewhere between 5 and 8 as far as current CFB coaches. His mere presence should not drop the rankings. That is just YOUR honest opinion. There are others out who disagree TO BE HONEST.

"Its Les Miles", remove him and his stubbornness, we would be ranked #1. There's nothing wrong with LSU program itself
$$$ + PR + two key members of TAF + 2 BOS members + LSU President last November + Governor's office = Miles is still our HC regardless if you like it or not.
The powers that be have the last say. Not all of them agree with your above statement. Now if we have another November like last year then yeah there needs to be a change.
And LSU has issues. It's not Alabama and the SEC office is located in the state of Alabama - not somewhere else. The same issue 12 other programs not named Alabama and Auburn has. One of the best CFB coaches of all time with connection to La. is coaching our arch rival. And Mark Emmert is still NCAA President. If you think he is a friend of his former employer, think again.

he coaches poll is truly about respect. They aren't going to vote LSU as highly until Les proves he can win in November again. In a way rightfully so.. but my goodness is this team loaded.. It's just ridiculously loaded and balanced every where.. I saw Arkansas' Brett Bielema was one of the selected coaching voters.. and just at the SEC media day he was basically talking about how it was easy for them to stop load up and stop LSU.. so I doubt he gave LSU much respect when it came to this voting.. That's just one arrogant coach.. but he was among the voters.
I can buy into this somewhat. It's about respect, rep and winning when it counts the most. It's also a popularity contest. And that is not the best way to judge what is real or not.

We were an obvious 9 win team last year and most saw it from very early on. First year young inexperienced qb, young guards and not so great depth at dline and LBer.
Absolutely. But it was more about HOW we lost that caused the pain for many. At the end of day we ended up where your's truly thought 9-3. This season can go that way or as high as 11-1. It comes down to improved production at QB, more diversity with offense, D gelling quickly and how we handle the schedule in November. In addition, * knock on wood * injuries or lack thereof!

I think 6 is more than fair. As long as we have terrible QB play and rudimentary playcalling, 2 to 3 losses are probable.
I'm hoping for a great season, though. I hope Harris is ready.

Based from what? Past results?

No they shouldn't!
Agree. Based off of last year that has to be earned. We are in a good spot to start without the pressure of being number one and not being too far back either.

" none of these polls mean a damn thing."
Well, they at least mean that the LSU program has some national respect. Personally, I'd rather have my team in the preseason top 10 than not.
We all know that if this poll didn't have us in the top 10 or top 20, we would be having threads discussing the national disrespect for the LSU football program. So, at least we don't have to put up with that from our drama queens.

Great D? What makes it great? This team has a lot of questions including how "great" the defense will be.

14-10 (9-9 against the West) last 3 years. All with elite recruiting classes.
I guess I'm just too damn stupid to realize that I should be happy with this record.
