re: The preseason No. 6 ranking is hardly disrespectful - but it's just not right.

Pretty sure it's a real statistic that 100% of the preseason #1s don't keep that ranking. So...I'm okay

"Its Les Miles", remove him and his stubbornness, we would be ranked #1. There's nothing wrong with LSU program itself.

I would be fine if LSU was 5

I'm fine with Alabama being number 1. They have earned it as long as Saban is there.

I just really don't agree with Ohio St, who returns only 3 starters on offense and only 3 starters on defense.. and we had similar stats to them a season ago on both sides of the ball.. and we upgrade massively at DC.. have way more experience on D.. and experience means a ton with talent.. especially on D..

I would go

Alabama
Clemson
OU

then I would struggle between FSU and LSU

but it doesn't mean those teams are better overall. I believe this is one of LSU's most loaded teams ever.. but.. Coaching matters..

so it doesn't equate to winning it all.. and that's why some of those other coaches are getting the respect factor.. however, that's just a bit much for OSU to overcome..

there's a reason Vegas has LSU favored in every game though.

The coaches poll is truly about respect.

They aren't going to vote LSU as highly until Les proves he can win in November again. In a way rightfully so.. but my goodness is this team loaded.. It's just ridiculously loaded and balanced every where..

I saw Arkansas' Brett Bielema was one of the selected coaching voters.. and just at the SEC media day he was basically talking about how it was easy for them to stop load up and stop LSU.. so I doubt he gave LSU much respect when it came to this voting..

That's just one arrogant coach.. but he was among the voters.

Frankly 6 is pretty damn high for a team that consistently has fallen apart in November for the last 4 years.

That should have nothing to do with PRESEASON rankings

LSU has been very average (maybe below average in the secw) since 2011 in the sec.

LSU has 20 SEC wins since 2012 only topped by Bama in the west. How being 2nd in the SECW for SEC wins can be seen as "below average" is a mystery to me, but each to our own.

The problems with the offense are so big

The LSU "offense" ranked 4th in the SEC for yds. gained per game. We had the #1 rush game in the SEC. The "problem" was our passing game in the hands of a QB 1 yr. removed from HS who played the last 5 games with an injury that required post season surgery.

We finished at #16. I know, I know that's not top 10 or top 5, but its not exactly chopped liver either when you play in the SEC west.

An argument could be made for preseason baseball, but in no way should we be in the top 5 for football.

Until LSU can prove we can pass the ball and beat Bama and Arkansas, I think we're a little high.

Yes everyone is a little too pessimistic on Brandon Harris and our QB situation. We're actually one of the the few teams in the conference who have an experienced starter that has shown he can play well in SEC games.

Fall apart? If we swap bama and Auburn on the schedule, no one would say LSU falls apart in November. Last year, I'd agree, but 4 years? Nah. Besides 14 prob had no business being in that game against bama, yet they needed a lot of help from the refs to come out of that game a live. Against an inferior LSU team.

6th is about right where I would put LSU, but I expect them to finish #1. Unlike others I am high on Brandon Harris and the passing game despite the scheme we will run. I do however expect more 3 WR (and hopefully as a base offense). With Harris getting bigger, hopefully some more option running as well.

The defense will finish top five and look like it did pre 2012.

We were an obvious 9 win team last year and most saw it from very early on. First year young inexperienced qb, young guards and not so great depth at dline and LBer.

Oh really?

So the program itself is a self sustaining entity?

Why some of you "fans" can't give the man any credit is beyond me.

Yes, he gets stubborn but to say "remove him" and basically insinuate the program will be fine after doing so, is beyond ridiculous.

Come on, man.

I think anywhere 3-6 is completely fair. But to those saying that preseason rankings don't matter, I think we started out at #2 in 2007.

If we had been #4-5, we would not have made the title game. You need to start out high, and if you're gonna lose, it needs to happen early. Not as much so ow that the playoffs are implemented, but it still could make a difference.

None of the polls mean a damn thing. All that matter is what the committee thinks after everyone has been on the field a while.
