The people running LSU couldn't care less about LSU, and that's a problem.

At the top, it starts with King Alexander, the president of the entire LSU system. He was pulled from Cal State, and is the genius behind the "Welcome Home" ad, which embarrasses the LSU brand at a national level. He's pining for a prestigious spot with the feds, and will leave LSU in a heartbeat when the right opportunity presents itself.
Next up, we have Daniel Layzell, the vice president for finance and administration. Instead of giving his LSU-Alabama suite tickets to a large group of donors, Daniel decided to give his collection of tickets to his daughter, a current student at Alabama, as well as all of her Alabama friends.
Finally, we have Mr. Joe Alleva. Joe couldn't handle the heat at Duke during the lacrosse scandal, so he took the easiest exit path at the time - LSU. Alleva has effectively diluted the stadium and tailgaiting scene, turning the entire gameday experience into an absolute shell of what it was just 5-6 years ago. In fact, Joe loves LSU so much that he almost bolted for Tennessee just a few years ago. The man couldn't care less about LSU.
Somehow, over the last 6-8 years, the people that have been appointed to run LSU all have zero ties to LSU, and that indifference is manifesting itself in discernible ways - whether it's a nationally televised ad that embarrasses our university, or skyrocketing prices for tickets and tailgating passes to support the 7 figure salary of our offensive coordinator.
Everyone wants Les gone, but quite frankly, I think Alleva is a toxin to LSU athletics that needs to be removed immediately, especially with the perfect replacement already present within the AD - Verge Ausberry. Verge is from Louisiana, played for LSU, and bleeds purple and gold.
If our sports programs (as well as the university as a whole) are going to ever return to prominence, I think it's vital that the individuals charged with running the university have a genuine interest and passion for how the university operates and represents itself on a national scale. Currently, that clearly isn't the case.

I do agree with the need to run Alleva....

Agreed about Alleva. But remember Joe Dean ruined LSU football, and we needed Mark Emmert to revive it.

Verge would be awesome!!! We can drop out of the SEC and have a 12 game football schedule made up entirely of Louisiana schools and out of state directional schools

If this is true, it explains much about the state of athletics at LSU. Further, the oddities of the head FB coach would not even register as important to them.
Someone needs to convince Miles that having a good passing game can only help a run oriented offense.
I wonder how this affects the academics? I agree that ties to the university should be an important factor in hiring decisions.

I was confident at the time of the Alleva hire that he would somehow screw the entire athletic program.
Good post.
Good post.

It's been well documented that can result in disaster. Miles has to want to change himself.

I have been saying for awhile now that it is pretty obvious that the main concern of administration is money. As long as the money is flowing - or as long as costs can be managed to turn the highest profit, the actual product is secondary.
If LSU fans keep lapping up what they are selling, then they are fine with it.

It was a less than overwhelming hire, to say the least.

1. We're not winning 80% of our games now.
2. You do understand that Miles will eventually have to be replaced anyway, right?

AlaTiger,
You and the OP hit the nail on the head. We have an Administration that is not committed to a winning football program as they have no ties to LSU. It is just another job to them. The only thing that will make them change the status quo is if revenue significantly drops and their jobs are in danger. Only way that happens is for the LSU fans to boycott the football team. Do not renew season tickes, do not buy merchandise, etc. I'm not in favor of that at all but it does seem like the only way to make the Administration get off their asses and do something.

If you want to tailgate, you can tailgate. Alleva hasn't ruined anything. Some of you people are simply too self-absorbed to understand your precious parking spot isn't the most important thing in the world.
