Allegations could over turn LSU loss

Dave Cohen Reporting

Auburn is the only football team to beat LSU this season. If allegations against Auburn's quarterback, Cam Newton, turn out to be true... the school may have to forfeit that game and LSU would then be declared the winner.

I don't think that's how it works. I think the win is vacated and it just shows it as a vacated game for Auburn.

I don't think LSU capitalizes off this in any way.

In the unlikely event that the NCAA or SEC (hehe) strikes with lightning speed (and assuming major allegations are true), voters are not going to allow LSU to back into another nc game (not with LSU's less-than-stellar play and especially not with the Les Miles goofing prevalent in the press this season).

Further, this can do nothing but tarnish the SEC's overall image at a time when most conferences, who are likely sick of hearing about the SEC's dominance, would enjoy nothing more than picking away at the top dog. More voting points lost for being a conference member.

I agree with shutterspeed and I'll add 1 thing.

Recriting...

If Aubarn receives sanctions and is put in a similar situation to USC it will result in a direct beneficiary of Bama. They will basically have their pick in state and should only continue to bolster their program. It will have little to no positive impact for us. The whole situation sucks. This shouldve been discussed months ago.

If AU cheated, they cheated

They will be impacted directly.

The issue is not how it will benefit others...that is silly talk.

It's about how it will effect AU's program

Your right, not much good for LSU coming out of this. Right now all I see is a lot of really bad reporting going on. No sources, no validation of reports, tons of erroneous junk. If this isnt true Cam will be a rich dude with all the defamation money.

You're extremely naive to believe auburn will be the only team impacted. Please do reference the west coast beneficiaries of the USC sanctions.

I totally agree with this...
Another point that I think is worth mentioning is that the NCAA has apparently known of these allegations since January, and Auburn has known about the story since sometime in the summer. The NCAA reacted very quickly when the allegations regarding the North Carolina players, and A. J. Greene came out, and yet they have known about a much more serious alleged infraction for 9 months and not done anything? I would think that the lack of action by the NCAA means they did a preliminary investigation and were unable to substantiate these serious allegations

"It's not true," Newton's father said Thursday night. "The allegations are completely unfounded, and we've retained an attorney. That's all I can say at this time"

I am sure this is true and any attorney woudl have an easy time stalling. Not going to effect LSU this season. AT best, AU's wins will be vacated NEXT YEAR, but LSU's loss will remain intact. I think that is the way a vacated win works. Some clarify if incorrect.

I mean seriously, what do we know? Can LSU throw stones? How do we know our program is running a sister mary's foundation for the poor over here? How long do we have to wait before here stuff about Ryan Perriloux? Jemarcus Russell? Or anyone who sat on the sidelines or played during our national championship run?

I have been assured by many a posi-tiger that Les Miles runs a clean program, so no worries.

No. AU could vacate the win, but it does not affect LSU's record. In other words, AU has no W or L vs. LSU. But LSU still has the loss.

If there is no truth to the allegations and the NCAA is convinced of that, then they would have put this mess to bed no sooner than the day the story broke.

This might affect something behind-the-scenes on that BCS computer, might it not?

I mean, would the BCS want Auburn in the NC game with all these allegations hanging over Newton's head?

That would be rather distracting.

But would they still be able to play for SEC title? If not, we control our destiny
