re: The numbers show that LSU’s hitting has been remarkably similar this year compared to last

Just a random thought:
Given Papierski's skill set, if he had played in the Pac 12 or Big West his entire career, do you think he would be more highly thought of nationally than he currently is?

LSU started 3 true freshmen for much of the season and still starts 2 true freshmen, Smith and Watson, and one new JC transfer, Coomes. That means 1/3 of the starting batting order is new to LSU.
So I don't agree that the team is "almost exclusively all veterans."
Lest you forget, those guys supplanted veterans Beau Jordan, Bryce Adams, Renn Breaux, Chris Reid, and Jordan Romero.
Many of those guys were supplanted because they didn't produce earlier this year. Looking at a roster where veterans disappointed and were replaced with newcomers where the veterans either regressed or didn't develop and calling it a new to LSU batting order misses the point.

calling it a new to LSU batting order misses the point.
The point was refuting the statement that almost all of the starting hitters were returning players and that's why the batting stats should have shown improvement.
A third of the starting batting lineup is new, with 2 or 3 true freshmen starting most of the season.

I love how some people on this site take a look at numbers, staring them right in the face, and then pick and choose what they want to remove to help fit their argument.
- Oh..let's look at SEC stats only.
- Oh...the SEC stats still show LSU hitting really well?
Huh? It's a more even look when you factor in only conference games. OOC does absolutely vary widely, not to mention he was comparing 2016 COMPLETE YEAR numbers against numbers wihtout us going through the SECT and NCAAT this year...again, not a very even comparison.
And our SEC stats this year are well below what they were last year. So not sure where you're getting that we're hitting "really well" - in comparison to last seasons lines I posted. If you have been following the team this year you'd definitely know we aren't hitting as well as we did last season, you can see it game to game. That's not saying we're hitting poor, but there is a clear difference between this year and last season in conference play.

Yes we read dandy din this morning

With all of the returning players I expected improvement, not similar results. While none have dramatically gotten worse, I would say only Deichmann is a better hitter than he was last year.. Duplantis and Freeman are similar, the rest are not quite as good. Typically a player shows significant improvement in their second year starting and for the most part we haven't seen that
