Good thing we had Chavis at the helm in 2012 Bama game!

Our line always underperformed under brick.

Is that Brick's fault or did Chavis sign-off on the run contain philosophy? I think the latter, myself. We didn't do many if any stunts or twist from the d-line which would be the result of DC play-calling, mostly a straight rush with primarily DB blitzes, IIRC. It had success, though.

I'm looking forward to getting back to dominant front seven play to help generate more turnovers.

There are groups that can help with this. My sister was the same and was able to get treatment and support for her CQD(Cognitive quote disorder).

This is what is so frustrating about Les Miles in that he takes years to get rid of under performing coaches. That should have been happening every year.

It's also one of his greatest strengths.

ETA: Hope our secondary recognizes how to defend a pass.

The success of a good pass rusher or a pass defender greatly depends on recognition of what the opponent is doing. "Recognizing how to rush a pass" is exactly what he meant.

I agree with most of your statement, it was the main reason we were able to be successful against qb's like JFF. But it cost us dearly against other opponents. It seems like most of our sacks with Chavis came on corner or safety blitzes. I agree the key is mixing it up, but having a defense with more aggressive mind set will be a plus.

[quote]I'm just saying that every strategy has strengths AND weaknesses. The key is to mix it up. Also, this myth that has developed that Chavis was a bad coach is BS. a bad recruiter? Hell yeah, but he was an excel

He was a conservative coach that used talent to win games without a lot of risk, but that philosophy also lost a game or two a year which matters a lot if you're a contender.

That's why we are so thin at Dline because recruits saw that we did more preventing than just pinning our ears back and rushing.

But now that we've got a good Dline coach and top Dline recruits we can get back to dominating the trenches

Even if Chavis had them playing contain, it's mind boggling that they still weren't taught proper rushing technique. Having two NFL teams two years straight question what they're taught is telling on how Brick underperformed.

I here what you're saying, but I'm saying it's not like Brick didn't know how to teach pass rushing. He was a d-line coach for the Bears.

quote:

Haley was the Defensive line coach of the Chicago Bears of the NFL. In two years in the NFL with the Bears, Haley coached a defensive line that helped Chicago rank No. 5 in the league in rushing yards allowed per game in 2008. The Bears finished sixth in the NFL in sacks in 2007 with defensive tackle Tommie Harris earning a spot in the Pro Bowl that year.

I think Chavis' spread defense didn't put a premium on sacks using different moves. IMO, He just wanted a straight pass rush with contain.

I'm just saying I won't be surprised if Haley has a bigger impact in Texas with Strong defensively. His bio indicates he did know how to generate a pass rush. However, with the rumors that Chavis didn't want certain highly recruited linebackers, it had more to do with them not fitting in his scheme, IMO. But it also ended up leaving us thin at the position which is strange recruiting-wise since he was a linebacker coach.

But again, his scheme did work well for what it was designed to do.

I'm very surprised to hear Miles is checking in on what a position coach is doing. Just the other day tRant told me this doesn't happen, weird.

Coach O is the man

No deciphering needed here. I've been waiting for this for what seems like an eternity.

Sure if Les Miles said it then it must be gospel.

Wow we are going to force the offense to beat us with draws, traps, screens, and scrambles. That sound like a DYNAMIC offense right there...

Further evidence that the whole "BBQ Buddy" thing doesn't work.

BTW, Haley was available for LSU to hire because he was let go by Da Bears and was a Chavis buddy. You don't just leave a job in the NFL for one in College unless you're asked to leave. Some of you have short and selective memories.............

This is something that our D Line has been lacking in the last few years in my opinion. It seems that they tried to go more towards a bunch of smaller/faster d linemen, and that, imo, is why they were getting run on alot lately. We get a good pass rush and we get better overall. And imo, you need big fat strong uglies in the trenches to do that. I don't know if LSU has that right now, but at least having Coach O around, the ones we do have will be aggressive and get in the backfield.
