The irony is both sides of the Miles debate are right.

Les does need to go, based on numerous factors, not the least of which is the expectations of the fan base, but the reality is, his replacement won't be nearly as successful.

Was Miles going to be less successful coming in as well?

Get real. Miles benefited from tremendous from a wealth of talent.. he often made bad bad coordinator hires..

he won 1 championship fortunately with a wild season

Imagine a better coach with the same amount of talent

just like the 100 years before he got there right? They had 4 years finishing in the top 5....Les doubled that in 11 years......

I believe Chip Kelly can do better...but the list that CAN do better is very short...I've seen you bashing Miles all day...but get real....

How the hell does anyone know his replacement will not be as successful.

That's the wrong question. The right question is whether Miles or his replacement will do better over the next five years.

Just people making educated guesses based upon the last 100+ years....and the standard he has set. You tend to forget that over the last 11 years Miles has won more games than any other SEC program.......

but, I guess in your negatiger world, it should be easy to win more than Miles has....lol

depends on the coach...but seriously, I don't think some of you understand the level that he has won at....if it were so easy, then someone in the past 100 plus years would have done it already.

Les was 28-21 before taking over LSU.

I guess he made LSU, considering we were 22-4 the 2 seasons prior to his arrival.

Next coach only has to beat 4-7 SECw over next 2 seasons. Might as well just disband the program now.

nice try.....

but Saban's second best year at LSU was a 3 loss season. I'm just not sure why you clowns try to spin it so bad.

Saban had 1 good year at LSU.....in a time when the SEC was not nearly as competitive as now.....

It's fricking hilarious watching you guys try not to admit that Miles won more than any other coach at LSU...ever....it really is. It's like you would rather be set on fire than to admit the truth.

Whoever replaces Miles is coming into a far different situation than he was.

Saban built up the program, sure. Then he gave everyone a bag of shite for Christmas by leaving for the NFL after denying it publicly for weeks (lying even to his team). Miles stepped into a loaded program, and then rode out the Katrina disaster. Sure, some people claimed he "wasn't Saban" and bitched about losing to Tennessee, but the team finished strong and stomped the dogshit out of The U (btw, that game wasn't in a huge bowl, it was the 2nd tier Peach Bowl; so you can get big momentum in other bowls besides the biggest ones). That left the entire state galvanized behind LSU, and we prospered the next several years because of that.

That ain't the case now. We have fears of the Decline (in so many words the cause of the firing), we have a dominant Alabama as the prime SEC team (not us), we have A&M now in the conference and playing exciting offensive football schemes right next door (how would Dupre, Dural, Tyron Johnson etc look there?), meddling boosters (or at least the public perception of them), etc. Our coach didn't abandon us, we are running his arse out of town.

This situation is a whole lot different, and harder to win in, than what we had in 2005. If we don't get the right guy and win big right away, I am afraid this program will take a serious hit in recruiting, and not recover for a long time.

No one argues that Les won a lot of games. But there's no reason to think he's irreplaceable or that a new coach can't have the team looking better than it has the past 4 years.

We had that. He didn't win as much as Miles. He left LSU for the Miami Dolphins, and no one has heard from him since.

This is because he cannot find anyone willing to be handcuffed... As much as people say this isn't the case, Les has his hand in too much of everything.
