The Few Realistic Coaching Upgrades

First, let me say that I am a little torn on Miles potential departure. I’ve been looking at this A&M game since the Bama loss as the “make or break” game for Miles. If he loses against A&M (even despite a potential distraction excuse), we definitely need a change. If he wins, I hate to pay $15 mill to fire him, but things have gotten stale and a change is probably needed. I think it was John Madden who originally said that no matter where you are, after about 10 years coaching somewhere, things tend to get stale.
I don’t know if any fan base has ever been so splintered over the course of a coach’s career than LSU fans have been over Miles. This new potential hire really needs to be a homerun so we can simply unite our fanbase once again and provide a much needed jolt of energy to our program. Since it sounds that Miles may already be on the way out regardless of Saturday night’s outcome, I feel that there are VERY FEW candidates that are both realistic AND potential upgrades over Miles.
Jimbo Fisher is the obvious best choice. He is the safest option and I think he would provide the most seamless transition to success in 2016. It would be pretty cool if he could reunite with Bo Pelini as our DC as well (They won the SEC west together in ’05 and were 22-4 coaching at LSU together). I have to believe we could beat his salary at Youngstown state (although hopefully he would stay up in the booth during the games).
Chip Kelly is an exciting choice but he seems a little out of place down here in the south. At the same time, there are plenty of northern implants coaching down here that have done fine. I don’t know how much of a factor that would make in recruiting, but certainly Jimbo would be much more familiar with the territory in comparison. I don’t follow pro football that closely so I haven’t watched Kelly’s Eagles too much, but it seemed like his Oregon teams were on the finesse side of things, while I like a more physical team.
Bill O’Brien is a coach that I have liked a lot. I just googled him and apparently he is unhappy with the Texans and has shown interest in the Maryland job. One would think that if he would take the Maryland job, he would take LSU if offered, however I think he coached at Maryland before and the Under Armor CEO is apparently ready to offer him big money. He also doesn’t seem to stay in places very long and I would feel like he is someone who could bolt LSU if another good opportunity came up.
If the above guys don’t work out, the only other names that I think have the potential to be good at LSU and are realistic are Larry Fedora, Tom Herman, and Todd Monken (especially if he can beat LA Tech this week). These certainly don’t bring the excitement and name recognition as the above, but I think they are good coaches and worthy of interviews.
My point is, LSU had better be darn sure they can get one of these guys, otherwise, they need to stay with Miles despite him being on thin ice and its effect on recruiting.

How can Chip Kelly be a realistic choice when he is still head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles?
What about someone like Dan Mullen if we could pull him from Mississippi St? He coached quite a bit under Urban Meyer

that ship has to have sailed. They've already cut his legs out from under him. They have to already have a coach pretty much in place to let this all go down the way it has.
Fisher is already on board or someone is pretty much already on board.
if not then our power players and string pullers have got to be some the stupidest mofos around

The only way miles can stay now is if the BOS fires aleva and says miles is our man for the foreseeable future.

The moment someone says Chip Kelly I question their football IQ. Show me where his resume is impressive in the SEC system? He is an embarrassment in the NFL. He had a successful offense only at Oregon, horrible defense. Losses always came to smaller schools when at Oregon. Could not beat the SEC in big games while at Oregon. Nothing g about him is a sexy pick for LSU.

I really like Dan Mullen and I think he would be great at LSU. However, I just think it would be hard for him to tell his team that he is jumping to another SEC west school (for more $$), and then turn around and play the guys that he recruited for the next few years. I'm not afraid of Miss St. playing the revenge factor but it would just be kind of awkward. We could do a lot worse than Mullen though.

More successful than Saban in NFL. Also 46-7 (33-3) at Oregon is impressive any way you look at it. Dude can coach.
Looking at his losses (#14 Boise, Stanford, #8 Ohio State, #1 Auburn, #4 LSU, #18 USC and #14 Stanford) So he lost to one un ranked team.

Dan Mullen. How bad do you think we would have beaten Mississippi State if we would have switched head coaches this year? To do what he has done at Mississippi State with 6 straight bowl games, a BCS bowl and his record this year with only 7 starters returning is pretty remarkable. Just seems like a good fit to me. He has survived the rigors of the SEC at probably the most disadvantaged schools in the SEC. He also coaches up QBs.

think about what he could do with LSU type players considering what he was able to do at Oregon with Oregon type players. He's not coming anyway, he's still currently an NFL coach, so the point is mute anyway

Iknow. I would be happy as shite to get Dan Mullen. Actually personally would rather him than Fisher. Is a safe pick who has more upside than Fisher.

Someone said Chip lost to lower teams? Hello FSU lost to Friggan Georgia Tech.

I agree with this. My ideal choice would be to lure James Franklin back into the SEC, but there is almost no shot of this happening.

Don't be so sure of that. Just saying............and I'd question the IQ of anyone that can't see the potential of him with the talent LSU gets and particularly the skill players that Louisiana turns out yearly. He killed it at Oregon with significantly less talent....I can only imagine what he would do with Dupree dural fournette guice and company...maybe even donte Jackson.

Yeah that's pretty stupid...saban lost to Ulm...uab....

So chip isn't realistic because he's at philly still but merlins is realistic even though he's at MSU still?
The retardation on this board never ceases to amaze me.
