If we fire miles, we will be an elite top dog again with the hiring of a top level coach. We have the talent it will be easy

Miles is fired

We will get Jimbo or Herman because our program sells itself

Coach O is hired

Well, we couldn't get a elite coach so we hired within so we don't have to rebuild with all the talent we have

Lsu starts 2-0

Look at how good our talent looks with a great staff

Miss state loss

This team isn't talented and we are in a rebuild

It is scary how fast we allowed our expectations to drop.

I don't want to get into whether or not people like O. I just wanted to discuss the extreme expectaions shif in a short period of time

It's almost like sports fans are generally optimistic towards the team they like... weird

unfortunately those are one in the same given expectations shifting=goal posts being moved to support an earlier narrative

but I'll stop

We are actually doing the opposite.

I expected this. The narrative will continue to shift for those who are backing the O hire. One day, most of us will be on the same page. I don't know when, but hopefully it won't be too late. I fear that it will be.

Our expectations change so much because people are extremely passionate about LSU football. In fact, we don't normally look at it objectively. That is why the expectations shift so much after a big win or a big loss. We want to be in the NC game every year. When we lose one, the sky seems to fall. I'm not criticizing at all. Passion is great. But that's how it is.

The fact that people are just realizing what the reality of the situation is is scary and shows how much our fanbase knows about football*

This team is NOT tailored to play modern football. All of our WR's left during and right after the Miles tenure because we didn't actually throw the ball, and we have an awful OL coach who recruited a bunch of OG's and no OT's because all we needed to do was run the ball up the middle for the past 5 years. Our front 7 is completely gutted because we literally did not have anyone recruiting there from 2013-2015 between Chavis and Brick, and we're having to rely on young guys to pick up the slack.

Admittedly, I didn't expect us to have a bad season because Aranda is a genius and our defense has carried us before, but we do NOT have elite talent right now. As much as I don't think Orgeron will be the coach to turn this around, I think he's a truly elite recruiter and will be able to restock the cupboard and have enough success that our next coach will be able to come in and win a la Dinardo to Saban

If we would have fired Miles in 2015 and hired Jimbo like the plan, we would be undefeated this year, and probably would have only lost one game last year.

O is a horrible head coach and it will continue to show with his teams play. We have to wait 3 years until we can hire a new coach and by then we'll be the muddogs and won't even be able to hire jim bob from northwestern state.

I think you're conflating a few groups here into one timeline, or aligning to the marketing about what people WANT to believe.

I do think the "Fire Miles, Anyone can win with this talent" was a widely held belief across all groups but a few outliers (people who predicted some talent gaps).

But yeah, this timeline is accurate although, the big differences are in the "we have to rebuild," and the "look how good our talent is with a great staff" moments are fairly large. As in, a lot of posters were on one side or the other.

Yep. The expectations have gone from "We are elite" to "We are mediocre. We don't deserve to get an elite coach. We're terrible and we need to rebuild." That is definitely the opposite of being optimistic. That's basically painting ourselves as a bad program that's FAR away from being relevant. Unbelievable how fast the narrative changed.

One of the more rational statements made on this board since we lost last Saturday. I'm sure you'll be downvoted to hell!

Yeah, I agree with you.

My expectations have dropped a ton; but I'm factoring in the coaching now.
Going into the season, even though I didn't think O would be able to maintain this program over years, I thought he'd pull an "Archer" and piggyback off the previous regime's structure... my guess was that this would be his best season, and then things would start breaking down.

I thought we'd lose at Alabama, but the rest of the season was in reach (hell, I had us beating State by 20 pts). I worried that we might lose at Tennessee or Florida, but expected 10-2, felt 11-1 would be possible.

The concept of a rebuild was never in consideration. We have SR's or draft eligible JRs who will leave at QB, both WRs, 2 deep at RB, and 3 quarters of the defense going in. You don't rebuild like that, because you're going to rebuild again next year. The idea was progression.

That last part about being good and the MSU prediction is bullshite. Lots of us had expressed concerns about this team and people like you yelled chicken little and other bullshite.
Go spew that shite elsewhere.
