LSU's decision to part ways with head football coach Les Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron wasn't a package deal after all, a source with knowledge of the situation said Monday.

After replacing Miles on an interim basis Sunday, Ed Orgeron was given the option to make the call on LSU's embattled offensive coordinator, the source said.

Orgeron ultimately decided a major change in philosophy was needed and chose to elevate tight ends coach Steve Ensminger to the position. Ensminger, a former LSU quarterback, has been a coordinator at multiple stops in his 30-year career, including McNeese State, Louisiana Tech, Texas A&M and Clemson. He had been coaching tight ends at LSU since 2010.

At his introductory press conference Monday, Orgeron said the Tigers would have a new direction offensively.

If that's true, he must have fired the other Michigan man Dingman as well. Interdasting.

If all of this is true, I find it increasingly likely that Ed O was hired with the understanding that at some point in time in the near term, he'd be in charge. You don't make a decision like that (firing Cam) without some forethought and conversation.

Coach O knows he needs to go outside the box to even possibly get hired full time. Firing Coach Cam was not that far outside the box but it was a change that had to be made, if for no other reasons than PR.

I like it. If he did then at least he saw the problem and started the road to fixing it. That alone is encouraging.

Decisive leadership has been lacking for a long time.

Coach O mentioned accountability during his press conference.
