The offense looks like it doesn't have an identity...motion and trickeration for a team built for power football.....I guess it is only just the spring.

Well it was only the 15th practice of implementing an offense that is a 180 from last season.

Canada has been at LSU for 5 months. He has had less than 20 practices in which to implement his offense. The fact that it is, at this point, gimmicky is normal.

I know we live in a instant gratification society now, but for the love of god let the man have a full spring/fall to implement his system before getting discouraged

I actually very much agree with you. I am also very, very uneasy about the offense.

I personally believe what Ensminger was running was nearly perfect for LSU football. If you could take what he was doing and implement 20% more spread type concepts, it would be, IMO, the perfect offense.

Physical, power running is something I don't want LSU to get away from completely. I just don't want to have 4 plays and call the play out to the defense before we run it.

It's a simplified multiple offense. There isn't an identity.

Just getting lined up properly and quickly is a good sign. The execution will come. Our identity will come but Canada needs more time to figure out what this offense is. He will figure out what they can do in time then the identity of the offense will come. I expect it will be a lot of running unless etlings back surgery is a miracle. Or Lowell learns the offense by fall.

Well no shite. A new offense is different than the old one and the players recruited for the old one dont fit the new one. Its like that round hole square peg deal.

It was the very definition of Jekyll and Hyde

It set school offensive records against crap defenses, but literally could not score against good defenses.

Because good defenses in the SEC stop the run

The biggest thing that scares me is if we go 3 and out we may have used 30 seconds. That translates into about 20-25 extras plays our defense will be on the field during the course of the game. That is critical in the fourth quarter.

Ensmingers play calling because it's not really an offense like people on here keep calling it, anyways, his play calling was just a lil better than what Miles/Cameron were doing. Really Cameron could have called the same kind of game as Ensminger. Miles handcuffed Cameron I still say after the first season when they had all that production with Mettenberger/Beckham Jr/Landry. I think Cameron got a raw deal because of Miles' stubbornness to change and pretty much called the kind of game he wanted, but I'm glad he's gone because he still didn't do other things good like groom his QB's the right way. But you're right about Ensminger struggling with his play calling against solid teams like Alabama because his calling pretty much resembled what Miles/Cameron pretty much did. He just went in the tank against Alabama.

I think Lowell Narcisse is built for Canada's offense and I hope he takes over as the season progresses. He can run that type of offense really good I think because he can control the flow of the offense out of the spread, run the jet sweeps and hand offs to the RB's while taking off on good runs himself. And he can throw down field with authority because he has a strong arm and can take something off the ball on touch passes. Those throws down field that Etling struggled with Narcisse can throw those beautifully, I've seen him do it on his hudl film.

This just isn't true. The only team Ensminger struggled with was Bama. We put up over 400 yards on Florida but turned the ball over 17 times on the goal line. In fact, I believe we put up more yards on Florida than anyone.

With regard to Bama, it doesn't really matter what offense we run. If you don't have a stellar QB, you won't beat them.

If you look at Ensmingers body of work, for the period of time he had to get the team ready and be in charge, it was nothing short of miraculous. So, as I said, his offense with a few tweaks here and there, a little spread, would really be perfect. I also think it lends itself to controlling the game more and keeping the opposing team's offense on the field less.

I may very well be the only person that feels this way, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out. I think people in general associate SE with Miles, and for that reason didn't really look at his work objectively enough.

Not to be snarky but I wonder why Canada is paid what he is when there are so many posters here who already have the solution.

It's just the truth, without good QB play, the Defenses will crowd the LOS and stop the run. Good defenses like Bama won't care about the shifting, like what LSU did tonight. They will stay in their gaps and fill the hole. QB will be the key, again.
