That one I can't explain other than the possibility of it being a guarantee they gave him or a promise they made that they are actually honoring. Domingue's scholarship was a 1 year deal. Not saying it's ideal, just that the decision is mostly understandable on both sid given the situation.

We could've used Trent this year after all that's happened

For those of you arguing over a ridiculous comparison of LSU and UT's degree, it doesn't matter as he already graduated from LSU

I will only be mad if Texas beats us for the NC on a Domingue field goal. Other than that, best of luck to him.

God forbid but if Colby's injury sidelines him for at least a game who starts at placekicker. Would it affect kickoffs, say if Gamble got the start assuming he originally had kickoff duty?

Gamble was probably promised a 4 year scholarship to come here. Domingue got a 1 year scholarship last year as he was a walk on his first few years. Different situations...but Les had to do what he had to do. I agree Gamble hasn't really earned his long term scholarship yet, maybe that changes this year though. We need a long fg kicker

..except, he won't get a UT degree unless he stays through grad school.

He already graduated from LSU and will be in his 1st year of Grad school at UT. The NCAA rule allows you to transfer to another D1 school, without having to sit out, if you already completed your degree at your current school and you still have eligibility left.

I'll take my LSU degree over one from Tejas any day.

Also, the thought of losing Domingue and Kolby D is terrifying.

Comparing Austin Texas to Baton Rouge Louisiana.

Oh I'm sure all the "Home Grown's" on here that have never crossed the state line of Louisiana East, West or North, will think BR all the way.

All scholarships are for 1 year and renewable to the student athlete at the team's discretion. Typically if the kid is doing what's asked on the field, keeping his or her grades up, and keeping their nose clean the renewal is a formality. No one did anything sinister or wronged anyone. The kid just got caught in a numbers game. I hope he helps Texas climb back over OU.

Absolutely. More than that. Definitely a good pick up for Texas.

Well aware, but when we're recruiting high school kids, Les absolutely is promising them a full ride till graduation so long as obviously they keep their end of the bargain off the field.

Gamble got just that, Domingue as a walk on did not, which is why they are different situations.

He already has his LSU degree and will be working on a graduate degree at Texas while on scholarship.

He is setting himself up for success in life.

Good for him.

Gamble has a full scholarship. Trent was a walk on and could only get 1 year scholarship because of that reason. Its poor form to pull 4 year scholarship and Les and most coaches don't like to do it. It was a crappy situation but we just had so many guys come back this year.

eta: very aware all scholarships are renewable after 4 years, but in recruiting kids are generally promised 4 years and walk-ons are done year by year.
