So I normally don't set up to tailgate at LSU because I never have a parking pass and the game has been early enough that I just accept invites to my friends who are tailgating in the area. However, this year I have a parking pass and figured I'd try to make a decent attempt at this since it's a late game and I don't feel like walking all over campus most of the day.

I've got a pass for the Alex Box east lot and was wondering what's the earliest I can get out there Saturday morning? I figured the earlier the better, though I'm not sure how early I actually should show up (I live about 30 min from the campus). Also, what's my options for setting up a spot in this area to tailgate from? I've got a small canopy, table, tv, speaker, small grill, and possibly a keg (which I would be willing to share with my neighbors around me in exchange for helping out a rookie tailgater ).

Basically, I just want to get out there and setup without screwing up anyone else in that area who I'm sure has been doing this for years now. If I can make it through the day with losing my ticket to the game, not set anything on fire or run out of alcohol, and half enough battery life to power everything for a few hours, I'll be one happy Gump.

I'd help you out if you weren't a Bama fan. Enjoy getting towed

But I'll have LSU fans with me, including one who's in the Navy and coming home this weekend for the game. If you don't help, the terrorist win.

I only said that because I have no idea about that lot. I walk around to friends tailgates on Nicholson and the Parade Grounds. Bump this for the day crew tomorrow if noone can help tonight.

I normally do this as well. I was planning on going to see my brother at his fraternity's normal sport on the Parade Grounds but I hear Gameday has messed that up a little bit though.

I'll bump it back up tomorrow while I'm at work. Thanks

This is true. Even if they did, I'd just offer them a beer as a peace treaty.

But how early to get there is the question...

worst tailgating advice ever.

I don't tailgate on that side of campus, but in our area one-timers like yourself are much more likely to be welcomed if they handle themselves much like you are suggesting. If I were you, I would get out there no later than 6:30 or 7. As soon as you see the first signs of life near you, ask them what the scene is normally like and if you would be in the way. If there is no room, 9.5 out of 10 times you will be offered to join the groups that have homesteaded the area. Good luck, oh and don't mention you're a gump until at least noon and everyone is past sober.

there really isn't much tailgating going on iun the parking lots over there. there will be plenty of space no matter what time you show up between nicholson and the lot you are parking in. just across nicholson from there will be some heavy tailgating

Thanks

Yeah, I didn't want to start of the morning by pissing off someone who's in that area every weekend by taking a spot they like to use. I'm a harmless Bammer just looking to have a good time, and actually, I have way more LSU fans that'll be stopping by anyway so it's not like I'm bringing a huge group of Tide fans with me & invading the area. I figured if I get out there by at least 6 I should be able to get everything straight and ready to go before larger crowds get there.

Plus like I said, I'm thinking we're getting a keg and would be happy to share with abyone in that area who helps the lone Gump tailgater in that area

Well, it sounds like the major tailgating is in other areas so I'm going to follow this advice and handle any pissed off people as nicely as possible.

What's the earliest I can get out there and set up? My friend ended up being granted leave this weekend (the Navy is slow as shite with this stuff though) but won't be landing until 11:30 in NOLA, so he needs to get a little bit of sleep. I was thinking I should be fine if I make it out there by 6AM??

don't be this guy. There's too much room and too much beer to be this much of a douche. Yes I am one of those people that will politely move your shite if its in my spot that I've been in for 12 years. That said, I'm never out there later than 6:45am for normal games and am set up no later than Friday @ 6pm for big games.

Too much conflicting advice.

The plan is to get out there at 6AM, get to the east lot, and proceed cautiously when scoping out a tailgate spot. If I meet a hostile person, I'll simply ask what they think is best, offer a beer/food and cooperate. It's gonna be a long day, no reason to start shite early and let it build up for 12 hours.

3 quick questions:
How close do you think I can get my truck to my tailgating spot? Are you allowed to leave the parking lot once you enter it? And if I needed someone to drop something off later in the day, could I meet them close to the entrance or road easily and get it from them?

Thanks for the help btw
