Well, I will at least go young adults.
They still need to raise a little hell. Life is going to lock them down in a few years.
"GEAUX to Hell Ole Miss" is that really any better? Back in the day, I bet not.
And to think Elvis wiggled his hips and look what it's caused.

I understand that standards were different in the old days, but I doubt Geaux to hell Ole Miss was in the ball park of STTDB.
I am not personally offended by it, I just think it grossly immature and not funny and if it's being done for protest it will never help.

Sooner or later they are going to have to learn that life carries consequences.
Listen, I know that the SS has always had some profanity in it, but it was never as bad as it is now. I really do blame it on the proliferation of social media and internet messageboards. There is a generation of kids coming up that have lived in a world where their words carried little consequence because of the anonymity of the internet. It's starting to show.
I went to LSU in the late 90s and the one cheer that I remember changing was the "Go Tigers, Go Tigers,Go Tigers, L-S-U" chant to "Go Tigers, Go Tigers, Go- Tigers, Kick their arse" However, no songs were ever banned and if they would have been, then the student section would have probably stopped the profanity for a while. It's to the point now that as soon as one song gets banned the next song gets even more profane and a little bit edgier. There are even students suggesting cursing during the Alma Mater in one of these threads.
Bottom line: time to man up students and realize that you can't win this battle. Also, your actions affect all of the Tiger fans that attend the games.

This is the stark reality of the situation. This is a no-win situation for the students. Time to realize it and learn when to pick your battles.
Seriously, how much does it really mean to these kids? They willing to have the band gagged so they can curse? And it's never anything witty. STTDB is about as funny saying Germans on here.

You and I are in complete agreement.
And before someone calls me old and unfun, I'm 25.

Not true. They banned Tiger Rag because "a-hole a-hole was heard on TV."
But even the words a-hole and kick their arse are no where near as vulgar as STTDB cheer.

College has historically been the environment for students to push the envelope and develop their own identity. These kids find a cause and roll with it. These mantras have included race, gender, pro-life, anti-war, and saving whales...etc.
These young adults will push the envelope, it's part of the maturation process.
I am not saying its right, it's just not that wrong in the scope of things.
That being said, I can see both sides of the argument as I would sure like to have Neck back.

If their identity is going to be STTDB then I feel sorry for our future as a state and country.

I'm 35 and I guess that's ancient on a college football message board.
I always get labeled as old or accussed of having a stick up my arse in these threads, but nothing could be farther from the truth. It's just that people like you and I have thought the situation out and realized it's one of the stupidest "causes" the students can fight for.
Back when I was a student we were fighting to keep our ticket allotment from shrinking and the main argument was that it's a sport for the university which is supposed to be for the students. That didn't stop the admin from reducing the number of student tickets 2 times before I graduated.
So I also warn the kids that support the profanity that the admin can and will reduce the student ticket allotment if they feel like it. Don't give them a legit reason to do it.

True, but I'm not sure when that was done. It was either before my time or after.

True support of the team and university would be to stay the entire game, cheer until they have no voice and do so without the profanity.
FWIW, I didn't mind the FU Saban. He deserves it and he only comes here every other year.
You'll never get Neck back until the immatures quit chanting STTDB.

Those are pretty legit causes. "Suck that tiger dick, bitch"...not so much
...and if they banned Tiger Rag for profanity (a song that was an LSU tradition), then Neck is fricking GONE.

Back when I was a student, we were fighting a fricking war. It was a war that changed this whole fricking planet. It was a war the US did not win. I really appreciate the fact that the 1st amendment ultimately ended up supreme (see Times v Sullivan). If these kids want to scream STTDB, then let them say their piece.
You may not agree with what they say, but I hope you will agree to let them say it. Give peace a chance...

Freedom of speech vs. LSU code of student conduct and the fact that the cost of their football tickets is subsidized by the university.
The student ticket is a privilege not a right. Therefore, they should learn to cheer appropriate cheers.
The cheer is not funny the millionth time. It's not clever. It's juvenile, like laughing in 1st grade when someone calls his penis a pee-pee.

These two statements from the same post illustrates the problem with some of you. It's called situational awareness.
I'm on a message board. I can curse, dickhead. <--see, I did it there.
When you have thousands of students saying suck a dick on a national stage, then it becomes a problem.
I swear some of you people have no perspective.

It matters what the university thinks about it. Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences in certain situations. You can't say bomb on a plane.

Yes because profanity on a message board and profanity from however many thousand screaming idiots on National tv is the same thing.
