Yeah, I can see some rules changing maybe one day in baseball, not that one.

You guys will cry about anything. I’m sure if it was the other way around it would be a good rule

Yeah it’s the rule block the ball and make a throw. We didn’t block the ball.

Yes it should be removed... from 12 and under baseball. Pretty sure I've struck out 5 people in an inning.

In real baseball? Either get a better catcher or stop throwing every pitch in the dirt.

Ive never understood it. A swing and a miss is and always should be a strike. Why does runner get to run just cause it touches the dirt?

Because we’ve always done it this way is one of the worst statements in the world.

With that said, everyone knows the rules. Mathis needed to make the plays

Ok. After reading that about why the missed third strike is a live ball I understand the origins of the rule.

It also makes me want it changed so much more than I ever did. It truly is a remnant of a time of no called strikes, soft tosses for pitches, and red hots for outs. And it was implemented for incompetent hitters.

This rule actually needs to be tossed out

I believe in Omaha in 2017 this rule benefited LSU against Florida State.

Think about it like this. You have an 0-2 count and no one on base. A wild pitch is thrown. If you simply swing at the wild pitch with no intention of hitting it, you can just run to first base. Meanwhile, if that same thing happens and you don’t swing, you have to stay put, you just get a ball.

We are literally rewarding batter’s for taking awful swings

and penalizing wild pitches/passed balls....

swinging at at strike 3 and pitched ball hits batter = dead ball - still out.

call is strike 3 batter out, dead ball

Because it is a rule. It gives the batter a chance to get to first on a strike out. The rule is fine the way it ends

I don’t like the rule at all. And it has nothing to do w last night

Never would’ve started a thread about it.

As soon as somebody loses a world series over that stupid shite, it will get changed YESTERDAY. I have always hated that rule, and 99% of my baseball viewing is mlb.

Never mind the link stated it cost a team a 1941 world series game.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the rule go away but the intent in the modern game seems to be the completion of the out..

They should just change the rules to there is no such thing at a strike-out and everybody gets to bat until they hit the ball in play

It’s one thing to penalize a wild pitch when it’s not swung at though. But by definition a wild pitch isn’t punished with nobody on unless there is 2 strikes and the pitch is deceiving enough to make him swing. I don’t think that should be punished. If a pitch is deceiving enough to make someone swing and miss its a good pitch IMO and doesn’t deserve to be punished

I've always thought it was weird, just never enough to bitch about it online. It directly led to a Tiger win this year too - I don't remember the opponent but it was Hal Hughes.

It's all good though; I wouldn't give up today's ending for much of anything
