I talked to Dr Strange again this morning for quite some time, letting him know the items were turned back over to the estate company, etc.

He is a super nice guy, loves to talk LSU football. I am sure he has more stories than all of us put together.

to oversimplify, Karma is the belief that if you cause good things to happen to others, then good things will happen to you...bad things to others will result in bad things happening to you...

it is a belief held by a number of eastern religions...but I like it too...

I finally meet Dr Strange today, super nice guy. As an award, he gave me one of the watches. He was also going to give me $100 plus something else, but I declined and told him he didn't have to give me the watch.

He gave me the pick of the litter, telling to keep one of the three watches, I took the 68 Sugar Bowl watch.

He showed me his collection of watches, pendants, rings, and charms all from different bowls. He has a charms bracelet that basically is a history guide to LSU football. The first charm is a 1935 SEC Champions charm. Next he has a football charm about the size of my thumb from the 36 Sugar Bowl (Pop Strange was a player back then). The charm bracelet goes up through the 60's and ran out of room. He still has a bunch of stuff from the 70's. Plus all the watches incluing the 59 & 60 Sugar Bowls.

I would say that you and Dr. Strange are both class guys. Your honesty was rewarded by a grateful son. A win win situation for both or you.

I went by a jewelry store on the way home to see if it could be re-engraved back to the way it was, but they don't do it. Than I decided there is a good story behind it and you can still make out most of the engraving, just the name is gone except for a P with open quotation marks in front of it. They gave me a cloth to clean it. I didn't realize how dirty this thing was:

After a little elbow grease to clean it up, a $5 band and free holder from Wal-Mart, it is now in it's display mode. Funny thing, I didn't realize bands came in different lengths, I just bought the one that looked the best, now it does not fit me. I really didn't have any intentions of wearing it anyway:

Antique Tiger,
Do you know where to get old LSU posters? I'd really like the art-deco '36 Sugar Bowl, LSU-TCU. Shoot me an e-mail if you can help.

Thanks

I've really enjoyed this entire thread. Thanks for posting. By doing the "right thing" you have 2 fewer watches but gained a new friend in Dr. Strange and the admiration of many fellow Tigers. A very good trade, IMO.

There is some guy on eBay who has made posters out of some of the old bowl programs, 36 Sugar Bowl included, other than that, I really don't know.

I found the auction with the poster you maybe looking for:

You are a good man and Tiger.

I have a nice collection of LSU things back to the 50's. I'd love to have bought one of those watches, but it's much better to see it going back to the owner.

I called Dr David Strange who lives here in Baton Rouge, and found out his dad's watches (plus other stuff) were stolen in the 70's. We talked for quite some time and he was very grateful I called him to tell him I found them.
