The Advocate (Scott Rabalais)
quote:

Southeastern Conference coordinator of football officials Steve Shaw said despite the huge number of plays and controversial calls Saturday in LSU’s 74-72 seven-overtime loss at Texas A&M, the crew calling the game in College Station, Texas, by and large got them right.

“There has been some narrative out there that this crew really had a bad game,” Shaw said Tuesday in a phone interview. “We haven’t finished our film grading — by Wednesday night we have all the film grades in.

“But this crew did not have a horrible or bad game, just some tough plays to deal with.”

You can read the rest, but the gist of Steve Shaw’s opinion is:
1. Mond’s knee was down
2. Spike was called correctly
3. Delpit fumble play was an incomplete pass
4. Greedy PI shouldn’t have been called

Don’t shoot the messenger.. I don’t like him any more than the rest of you.

bullshite lol. If he made that exact same catch at the goal line and the ball broke the plane of the EZ before we knocked it out, guess what it would have been immediately called? An aggy TD.

I can live with all the other calls, but that one was the worst I've seen in a long damn time.

And if he’s right about all of that we go into the 8th OT. Way to inject yourself into the outcome of the game back judge.

ok, if they didn't have a horrible game, then that means it was probably bad..

which it was

what did he say about possession of ball/knee ball and the int/fumble play

the WR's had the ball 5 times longer than Mond "grasping the ball of the turf as he is getting up...

there is not way to stop the game, "hold on,we've got something to review"

as I recall, there was no official ruling on the INT play on the field, this was all from press box/Birmingham?

Delpits play was a god damn mother fricking fumble and its disgusting that anyone would think otherwise, same as the horseshite PI call on greedy but at least he agrees there.

That ref should be fired for giving Texas a 2nd conversion ending the game and preventing 8th OT.

So Shaw is admitting that the refs messed up at a huge point in the game, resulting in a do-over that led to LSU's loss?

How can you say they blew a call that decided the game and say they didn’t have a bad game? That’s some mental gymnastics there

Protecting their own.

Even folks who are neither LSU or AtM fans were complaining and couldnt believe how bad it was.

Fumble and (non) first down we’re the ones that I get hung up on.

Just kept playing and was a yard short.

In other words: "if we did screw up, there's nothing anyone can do about it." Ho then added: "go bama."

by and large

and what does that mean: for the most part, with every thing considered, given the situation?

Take your pick, but this does indicate that they didn't do a 100% get it right. Which of the critical plays did they get wrong?
