Can you imagine the backlash though if we didn't throw him tomorrow and we lose?
quote:Had this discussion last weekend with SELU's approach. It's all about winning 2 of 3 and what you think as the coach gives you the best opportunity to do so. Some would seriously consider giving Poche an extra day after all he threw Friday/Tuesday.
You end your season without throwing your hottest pitcher?

There is no choice to make. Why wouldn't you start him in the game that will actually be played? Monday is a fantasy.

Tomorrow...there may not be a MONDAY game at this rate...
There is no Monday game. Start him because he's our best available and there's no point in losing worse than we already will.

You cannot ask a guy who just pitched on short rest to push it more.
I think Valek/Bugg/Newman. Poche on Monday. We just have to hit our way to Monday.

@SmartestMoran
Paul says Jared Poche' will start tomorrow's elimination game "if he feels good." Will see how he feels tomorrow before the game #LSU

, of course. Some think one game at a time. There's no right or wrong approach because you can justify it either way.
Not pitching him tomorrow will be the wrong way ...

That's CPM CYA. Of course Poche will say he's good. Then if he gets rocked, it will be "He said he felt good"
CPM should have said nothing.

And if his arm isn't feeling 100%? Throw him anyway right?

That's different. He ran out of gas and was honest about it.
This is different, he just got drafted. If he's going pro, he'd be smart to defer to Monday.

was honest about it
I'm not saying this happens. I would want Poche to start. I'm just playing a little devil's advocate because I think it's a good discussion and people may not realize that it's not as straight forward as it seems because of last weekend.

Should of started him game one.

This is big boy time: start Poche. He will have plenty of time to rest after this game. Later this summer in pro ball at even the lowest levels he will be pitching on 5 days rest as a starter and they may work him up to that with the 6 day rest on occasion. He is not a sure fire bet to advance very far in the pro's. Not ruling out as a lefty, they may put him in the pen.

Why would you leave poche on the bench with the season on the line?
What part of the following quote from the coach is vague or ambiguous?
quote:

The young man was mature enough against Rice to tell the coach that he "was done" after the 8th inning. It is very important that he have that same maturity and honesty today. If his arm isn't 100% ready to go today, do we really want him on the mound with the season on the line? If he has any doubts, I was just as soon try to win the game without him and let him be ready for Monday. LSU needs to win one game with him and one game without him. Does it really matter what order they occur?

Almost everyone on here got the answer right but the reason wrong. You don't start Poche because "it's win or go home". Both games are. You start him because Coastal's pitching will likely be stronger in game two than game three. You need Poche to beat their best remaining pitching so that wholestaff can match up against the lesser guys. That's also why you start your ace on Friday nights.
