Weather is a big factor. I don't think PM wants to go J Whole but with rain delays it may just work out that way.

All pitchers on deck, it most likely will take more than the 3 starters to get through this weekend.

I totally agree, ell. TS is as awful a team to ever make a regional. We have the luxury of a group pitching effort in Game 1.

We can even start Alden Cartwright with his left arm vs TS.

If it looks like we will win 3 straight, we can give Walker an inning in late relief of Game 3.

If we do get to Monday, I would be extremely confident with Walker in a deciding game vs SELU or Rice.

18/19 year olds in Single A ball do this and more all the time. Same game, same rules.
No. They don't.

I'm looking at A ball Midwest league inning pitched leaders... So far, the first 10 guys I've clicked through have been in the league at least two years and only one guy is 19.

First year players out of high school are babied in the minors. They slowly transition into 5 days of rest and their outtings are limited to a pitch count no matter the inning, no matter the score. W/L don't matter there; just development.

ETA: If you need more proof, look up these pitchers on milb.com and tell me how many innings they each got their first two years in the minors. LINK

I agree, start Gilbert and give Lange, Poche' and Walker the rest they need.

It's really a no brain.

As much as I enjoyed Hoover and winning the SECT, it would have been a "good" thing if Walker had an extra week of rest before the real post season.

With the matchup coming up and him not being available to Saturday anyway, start Gilbert friday. Then go Lange Poche and Walker if needed. If Walker doesn't throw, fine. He's thrown way more this year than any other time in his life. Rest will NOT be a bad thing.

Did you know something, or did you just curse the poor kid?

I was in the camp of letting him rest in the regional just like Atlanta. I thought he could use it. It was obviously the plan in the SECT since we didn't start him in either "must win" game. I was fine with him "resting" because I knew he'd still be pitching in simulated games. But I thought it would help keep him fresh.

In no way is that decision related to his current injury. He still would have thrown. He still would have eventually tore the ligament. People who think otherwise (Atlanta) are really dumb.
