three main questions about starting jobs. I see alot of competition in the fall for certain spots, including these three listed, CB which we talked about on here the other day (jai and PP imo) and maybe even DT. Mainly the competition is this it seems.....
SS- Brooks vs Hatcher (since loston is prob RS)
DE (other side of Alem)- Livingston vs Agheyere
DT- Woods vs Alexander

and on LB it seems like a lot of diff things could happen but mainly between Riley (for sure starting), Cutrera, Sheppard, Coleman, and maybe Baker (outside shot)
so what is everyone's opinion and sorry in advance if this has already been brought up. July boredom has def set in. lol

SS - definitely brooks... he has the type of game-breaking ability back there that we have been missing at that position for a while...
DT - i would have to go with woods... i heard some real good things about him in the spring... plus alexander is too injury prone.
DE - levingston without a doubt... you have to have experience at this position... plus he has some speed at this position... not blazing, but enough to pressure the qb effectively...

just my 2 cents though...

I agree with all this...I'm pretty sure this is whats gonna happen.

Since you didn't put the LB posistion. Here ya go!

SLB-P.Riley (easy choice)
MLB-J.Cutura (he sucks imo, but he's better than anyone else at MLB)
WLB-K.Sheppard

Whenever we go to the nickel package with 5 dbs and 2 LBs...jai or hawkins will play nickel, Cutura and Sheppard come out as LB's and Coleman goes in next to Riley as the 2 LBs

oh i totally forgot about the lb position... but yes riley, cutrera, sheppard...

i dont believe that cutrera sucks, but he will have to play his arse off throughout the season or else minter could wind up starting at that position...

It will be Riley, Coleman, and Cutrera. Sheppard will rotate amongst them as a backup. Cutrera will be a different player this year. Bank on it. Chevis loves him, and is a great teacher.

SS: I bet Hatcher and Brooks split time. Hatcher is the one who started in the spring.

LB: Riley starts at WLB for sure, it sounds like Coleman at SLB, which means Cutrera or Sheppard at MLB.

DE: Levingston, and it's not close.

If Cutrera stays healthy, he will be outstanding in the middle this year - if he has to deal with injuries again, Riley or Shep will take over in the middle. Look for a rotation of Riley, Cutrera, Sheppard, Coleman, & Baker.

I also hope Brooks starts at SS, but I think his chief competition will be McCray more than Hatcher.

No, go back and read the articles. Every article in the spring said that Chavis wants a cover guy at SLB. Hence Sheppard getting demoted there, and Coleman moving in.

Riley was the WLB.

Isn't he 300lbs? I would imagine that Chavis would play him at DT. For me, and I know that there have been exceptions here in the past, I would think 280+ should be playing inside unless they have ridiculous speed coming off the edge.

Nope, Hatcher was the starting SS next to CJ in the spring game.

Chavis, thankfully, is smart enough to see that McCray has no talent.

Where does Chad Jones fit into the mix since he has appeared to have bulked up some looking at him as a pitcher on the baseball team? Will he play some as a LB in some of Coach Chavis' new defensive schemes?
