..for pulling Lowder at (I think) 88 pitches when we could barely touch him all night. The announcers mentioned WF has a strict count of 100, but he still wasn't at that, and the way he was pitching (and we were swinging) he still had another inning+ before he got to 100. And even though Crews/Tommy/Tre had sort of loud outs, he was still putting up zeroes.

So thanks for pulling him when he was still dealing.

Best game I've ever seen outside of walk-off championships.

Yeah I felt WF relied a little too much on data to make that decision.

IMO shite like that goes out the window when you're in a dogfight like last night. I can get sticking to a pitch count mid-season, but dammit man this is to get to the National Championship. If I was Lowder I would have made them pry the ball out of my hands.

I also didn't understand them taking out Massey. We couldn't touch his stuff and they yanked him as well.

Pitching lab is great but in a high stakes game like last night, I think it has to be more of a feel decision.

Props to Jay for pulling all of the right levers so far in our rotation, and also to our staff for stepping up in big time situations.

Ah, so he's not a killer. Got it.

Something tells me Skenes may be begging for the ball tomorrow because he's a monster.

I agree. He's a hell of a coach. It's freaking Wake Forest and he is one amazing Tre Morgan play away from preparing for the finals against Florida.

We can criticize their hitting, but their pitching staff and management is fricking elite. They are stacked from top to bottom there. Unfortunately for them, everything Wes Johnson has been doing for a year is finally clicking.

Meh, they reliever came in and did a really good job. We were starting to hit Lowder hard anyway.

Yeah I didn't get that one either. But I guess they felt it was an important enough time to get to their cocky. confident closer who is pretty "impossible to beat."

But it doesn't matter since he apparently wanted out of the game himself anyway.

It is ironic that we witnessed the most dramatic pitching duel probably in our lifetime in college baseball and neither pitcher ended up with the decision, winner or loser.

When you have that many arms you can outthink yourself. That was just a mind-boggling decision however.

Announcer said he didn’t throw over 7 innings all year so they were sticking to the script.

ETA: Didn’t realize he took himself out. Interesting.

Surely there’s a pitching coach from these Series teams we can hire? There’s been some great staff performances

Really? Not what I would expect out of a pitcher like Lowder.

Mentioned a few days ago that if it came to Lowder in a third game, he has averaged roughly 80 to 90 pitches a game and has never close a game out. With the shortened rest, it was thought he would go out as soon as he became fatigued. It actually played out just like that. We all knew this would be decided when the bullpen came into play.

Pulling Massey was the bad move.

Pulling Lowder was nothing. Next two dudes blanked us like Lowder might have.

They showed Lowder in the dugout rubbing his arm at one point. He pitched a great game, but I think he was getting fatigued around the 6th inning.

If blindly following a pitch count is true, then that was the difference in the game. He was still dealing. Maybe even better to his average than Paul Skenes was to his...

Their bullpen is super deep and pitching is what kept them alive all series since their offense went limp. They were definitely not used to playing in a normal sized park and enjoyed the benefits of a short field during the regular season.
