Ross Dellenger just released another article during his John Chavis public records search. These are some of the names LSU considered for the job.

Miles or Dingman had at least one phone conversation with then-Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, Louisville’s Todd Grantham, Clemson’s Brent Venables and then-Georgia coordinator Jeremy Pruitt. Miles spoke directly to Venables and Muschamp, according to the documents.

So you are saying we made a bad hire and could have done better?

Does this mean Les chose the worst option?

Mississippi st did
My goodness, Steele was no where near as bad as made out to be around here. Some of those guys weren't even coaching and a ton of them were a dream and not realistic.
At least the current regime is addressing needs in the off season.

And Miles settled for Steele. Big Time Bad decision.

Dick lebeau...,wow.....don't think he would have done much recruiting

Yeah, Steele's here, so I'm behind him but I would've been totally jazzed to get Shoops.

Kevin Steele is a good hire. Give him some time to prove himself.

Yeah, let's give him at least 5 years.

He was the first to be a done deal then everyone said Dick LeBeau was the man. Damn

Had we instead gotten Gene Chizik, there would have been an initial 'ugh' from some, but his turnaround at UNC was freaking RIDICULOUS!!!
Would we have won the three that we lost if we had him, IDK, but we would have been in a much better position to. That defensive turnaround is possibly the best I have ever seen.
When the chaos of us firing everybody, Chizik and Aranda were my top two picks to replace Steele.

Ex-defensive line coach Brick Haley was on the list of candidates to replace Chavis, and Haley and Miles conducted “in-person discussions” about the job, documents say.
Oh man, so close to the melt of the century.

Use your brain. That's obviously an internal starting point list. The majority of that list were not viable options.

after being turned down by several of his top choices. I'm sure Chavis got more than a couple of calls from better coaches than Steele, who were being considered by Les for the job. They would be stupid if they didn't.
