His 3 outings looked pretty good to me.

He has? He's pitched a total of 5 innings at LSU. I'm very much encouraged by his start just like everyone else though.

Came in against Lamar with bases loaded no outs struck out the first two and had two strikes on the next guy before making a mistake and getting hit then struck out the next guy. Came in against Sac St. on Saturday in the 8th and got out of a jam before giving up two only one earned in the 9th with CPM leaving him in to see what he could do.

He shouldn't have had to go 3 that game. Why newman only went 1 and he went 3 is baffling.

Moving on, I feel very good with his closing games. I think having stallings in for the 8th and Gilber the 9th only puts less pressure on starters and the pen.

I think it has a lot to do with CPM knows what he has with Newman and he is trying to find out what he has with Gilbert and the other newcomers or veterans with less experience.

I agree Bugg/Newman as your stoppers in the 6th or 7th, one of those two or Stallings in the 8th, and Gilbert in the 9th. That is a good back end of the bullpen. You only need your starter to get you 5 or 6 and anything more is a bonus. Plus situation guys like Duvall and Reynolds. The rotation is starting to take form.

Knew this was coming. Gilbert is too good not to use him in situations like this.

Quit jinxing him. At this rate, his arm is going to fall off if you don't stop it.

Saying a player is good is a jinx now?

And dammit that wasn't a jinx thread! He had already gone over an inning! And even gotten out of his 8th inning jam AFTER the thread was started!!!!!11!!

He's looked ok. Almost got out of a jam against lamar but didnt. Still it was a good inning.

Struggled a little against Sac State. Some his fault, some not.

I mean he's promising but no way in hell i'd already name him the closer.

He started the 8th and while an error isnt his fault he also had a walk and 2 wild pitches. Luckily Sac State laid down a poor safety squeeze and he was able to get the runner at the plate and no damage was done.

In the 9th again the error wasnt his fault but he also gave up 2 base hits in that innings. He has been good but certainly not dominant.

You bring up an interesting point that Hunt Palmer was talking about on the radio this morning.

He was curious why PM would announce switching KRob and Freeman and just for four games. Or, similarly, why he's name a closer. Why not just do it? Set the lineup. Have your closer close. He thought it was a little weird to have "announcements" for simple roster changes especially in a year where we know things will be changing often.

It's weird because it almost locks PM into that decision. Or creates more questions when he goes against what he's says he'll do. Kind of like Dawson. He told us all multiple times that Dawson was a great SS and his bat would hardly matter. 2 games and 7 ABs later, Dawson is done. Not that the decision was wrong. But why put yourself in a corner like that?

You crusade on Chinea, he's second team all SEC and third team all american. You ride for Gilbert and he immediately blows the game. You are basically Peej at this point.

PM may be just keeping pressure off of Stallings and demanding he continue to improve his off speed stuff. imo, the closing role is Stallings to win or lose before the year is over.

From what i know about pitchers. They pitch better when they go to the ballpark and know when and in what situation they will be entering the game that day. I don't get why you have to announce it you can just tell them and not say anything to the press but that is the CPM way. It is weird how completely different him and Miles is when it comes to what they tell the media. Really and truly that is just baseball vs football coaches in general.
