re: So, was Les's offense indicted or vindicated by this weekend's action?

They were products of other coaches.
Going to completely disagree with this, but back to the point:

The QBs don't improve while they're here.
You listed Flynn, JR, and Mett.
Did those 3 QBs not improve under Les Miles? He had Mett for 3 years, JR for 2 years. and Flynn for 3 years. Did Jarrett Lee not improve?

. Jesus. Sims isn't some kind of amazing talent that just improved on his own and its pretty obvious neither is Jennings. The difference is Sims got better as the year went along and I think Jennings actually got worse. Kiffin played to his strengths and Cam apparently didn't do that with Jennings. I'm not saying Kiffin is a better overla coach than Cam.... I'm just saying in this situation it looks like he knows how to use his quarterbacks strengths instead of banging their head against the wall with stuff he obviously isn't good at like Miles and Cam do every season.

see bama
Bama runs a pretty simple offense difference is theyactually use screens, actually incorporate their TE's, occassionally a qb sneek. This just keeps the defense out of the box and allows a fluid offense. No special qb needed aka sims. LSU dooms itself by always lining up in that bullshite power I. Hey les and Cam shite aint working. Its 2014!

Disagree with it all you want. The three that were good here didn't start out with Miles or his OC. The three that did are fricking terrible.

Sims was fricking terrible to start the season..... But magically he improved as the season progressed. That's the difference in other teams and LSU. The QBs don't improve while they're here. Don't even mention mettenberger because he didn't start his career at LSU and is a NFL starting QB mid way through his rookie season.
He was average but not terrible. Terrible is our qb play.

quote:I think our offense improved slightly from 2012 to 2013. I think that Mett was hampered by "coaching" as the 2012 season progressed. It seems like after Mett's second interception of the season in the Idaho game, Les Miles decided to "coach him up".
So you don't think Mett greatly improved at LSU?
Mett's quote from that game:
quote:We finished the first half up 28-14. The next game we beat Auburn 12-10, further cementing Les' idiocy. We had a lackluster game against Towson and then lost to Florida 14-6.
"That slow start in the first half I put on myself," Mettenberger said. "We knew that my mistake really cost us in the first half and we knew we just had to go out and play LSU football in the second half and turn things around."

Sad to say but on the surface, not even close. However, Saban lets Kiffin roll.
Trend seems to be that Miles dictates the offense (per Crowton article). Would find it hard to see any other reason for the consistent pathetic play on offense but Miles. Been through 4 OCs in 10 years and some of the same patterns - has to be Miles.

quote:It is pretty impressive how Miles has managed to develop 3 different styles of bad offenses over the last 3 OC's. That has to be pretty difficult to do.

Whenever I have a tiny bit of doubt about the future of the LSU football program I remind myself that Rex is predicting disaster. History tells us that if that wanna-be poodle thinks bad times are ahead then we are surely on the cusp of greatness.

Stupid bullshite talking point.
Why was he better in 2012 than in 2013? If he learned everything at UGA and fricking community college?

If you honestly think Cam is a better OC than Lane, you're hopeless. Did you just start watching CFB? Lane was OC for a little known program out west that produced some impressive stats. Good thing we all laughed when Saban hired him.

So you're going to completely ignore the fact that he didn't start his college career at LSU and the ones who did are bad? You can't honestly think that's a coincidence.
And to answer your question..... He was inexperienced in SEC play in 2012 playing in a fricking 1975 offense. Not exactly a prime offense to make a lot of plays out of. 2013 was a better year for him because he had a year under his belt and he was talented as frick. add in the fact that no one could cover Landry and beckham and there you have it.

You're the one who is choosing to completely ignore 3 of LSU's QBs.
One is able to understand that they came from a different system and also not ignore the obvious improvement they had under Les.
Not to mention that JR and Flynn spent most of the time under the same OC

And what happened when that OC left? Jarret Lee, Jordan Jefferson, etc.... Jimbo didn't want to run that bullshite Miles runs.
Amazing that Florida St. always had a decent QB under fisher as well and now you have Winston throwing for 4k a year under him.

frick that. You are just ignorant. Look back that the play by plays from when Jimbo was here. Miles let Jimbo run his own offense, and hell we even ran mostly Jimbo's stuff after he left.
Jumbo went to FSU because bobby bowden was on the way out and he wanted to be a head coach.

they also have always played ACC defenses, and sucked in the NFL.
