Anyway, how far out did he schedule these games? And is it continuing?

It varied. Home/away series seemed to be scheduled more in advance. But the schedule changes so frequently these days, like playing UNC next year and trying to get out of the Tulane series.

We seem to be playing a better nonconference schedule the next few years with only one in-state game.

So is the UNC game in lieu of Tulane or are we playing both?

I'm not sure it was Nick's idea or Skip.

It was Skip's.

For what it's worth, I'm not a huge fan of it either. These teams (ULM, ULL, Tech) shouldn't be playing Div 1A schools, period.

I just thought it was funny seeing a Ole Misser calling our scheduling philosophy "BS".

I hear we are trying to get out of the long-term contract. We are scheduled to open with Tulane, so it has to be moved to 10/30 or canceled.

As for Southern Miss, we will never schedule them again because we have absolutely nothing to gain by playing them and there are dozens of better choices in terms of exposure and financial attractiveness...
Like SLU, NAU, and Memphis.

Actually, it seems Memphis used to consider Ole Miss their OOC cupcake.

Next years OOC schedule is pretty good UNC, WV, Southern Miss, and Tulane!

Ha-ha, very funny.

This year's game against Memphis was the 59th in the history of the series and they have won a grand total of 6.......and just for the record, when we stopped playing USM, we had a lopsided winning record against them, too.

The Memphis series has been discontinued for now and I personally am disappointed because it has been our traditional season opener ever since I was born.....and even the "road" games are actually more like home games since more than half the fans in the stadium are Ole Miss fans.

Hopefully, this will just be a short break in the series the way LSU took a short break from playing Tulane, but then resumed playing them.

I guess we will see.......

What were you really trying to accomplish with this question? Have you seen OM 2010 OOC?

Jacksonville St, Tulane, ULL and Fresno

So much to gain by playing these teams and, yet, nothing to gain by playing Southern Miss.

I think Fresno State is perfectly respectable.

Anyway, after next year, we have home-and-homes scheduled with Texas, Clemson, and Georgia Tech.....and, of course, in recent years we have had home-and-homes with Missouri, Texas Tech, and Wake Forest.......

The "model" for SEC teams now seems to be one "headliner", 1-2 CUSA types, and 1-2 gimmes. I don't necessarily like it and can't imagine anything more ridiculous than Florida playing Charleston Southern and then Troy (in addition to FSU), but that seems to be the trend

For financial and win-loss reasons, most SEC ADs don't want to schedule more than one really challenging OOC game per season.....

So 1A schools shouldn't be playing other 1A schools?

So are y'all phasing out this Louisiana OOC BS?......
.....or is this going to be a permanent feature of your schedules?

I get playing Tulane OR Louisiana Tech, but Tulane and Tech and ULL in the same year?

I know this was Saban's idea and I never understood it. I wonder if he will try to force the Bama AD to schedule UAB and Troy every year.

Anyway, just asking out of curiosity......

I would hope so. One Louisiana school is fine, but three (even two) is too many.
Supposedly it was a law passed (ostensibly through the request of Skip) by the Louisiana
State Legislature that LSU play at least one Louisiana school OOC every year.
I know we have Washington coming to BR for the return game ('11?), and North Carolina, West Virginia, and Southern Miss all next year, with the possibility of NC State, Colorado, OU, Texas Tech, and others in the future.

18-6. Eh,not that lopsided, but true ,not that close. Still, when Ole Miss stopped playing,Southern Miss had won 5 of the last 7.

STFU.

Sad that you guys have Vandy as a permanent opponent and have yet to reach the SECCG.

STFU and just hang co-championship banners and unrecognized National Championship banners.

Whatever. We beat Memphis 84% of the time and Southern Miss 75% of the time and 5 of USM's 6 wins came against Steve Sloan.

I could look it up and maybe I will, but I suspect LSU's record against Tulane is not even as impressive as ours against Memphis and USM.....

Actually, I did just look it up and LSU's record against Tulane is 68-22-7, roughly the same 75% winning percentage we have against USM and lower than the 84% against Memphis......

And if memory serves me correctly, LSU stopped scheduling Tulane shortly after a 40-point blowout loss in the Dome.....so there.....
