Anyone old enough to remember getting in line outside the AC (before the PM was added) the day before basketball games? Equipped with sleeper sofa mattresses, beer and plastic (because of the misty rain) we slept in line for a Kentucky game in the mid-80s. Dale Brown brought a tray full of cut up steaks (hopefully they were extras and not what was left on plates!) for us after an event inside and thanked us for our support. It was a great time and luckily we didn’t suffocate under the plastic.

I remember going to evey home game of the 81 season (exept Tenn) and getting in on my student ID. The AC was packed for every game including the Kentucky game on National TV where the crowd shouted "Joe Hall Sucks" and Master....Bate. I never had to camp out on the ramps but wish I would have. Is my memory failing me?

Yes, LSU/Kentucky. I believe John Williams took a pass from tipoff and dunked on the first play. Place went nuts. We used to bring sofas, ice chests etc...Lost my voice that day. Great memorie of the Assembly Center

Well that was unnecessary. You could have just showed up a few hours early on Saturday and been able to sit where you wanted.

what did the administration take away for that . I guess saying sucks now is too much.
Also though the students now always get attacked for their vulgarity and lack of creativity, but those chants don't sound any more enlightening.

I did it in 79 when we won the first confeence champioship in 25 years. I was the first one there and got a great seat down low.

of course I was the only one to do this back then.

In the mid seventies there were rasict chants all the time directed at black players on other teams. Nobody would admit they were racist but looking back 30 years ago it was a damn shame Nver heard the admin quiet us down

How about the 80-81 season the Front Row Lunatics started shaking their keys with about 5 min left in the game and LSU up by about 15 and yelling to Joe B Hall "Hey Joe go start the bus"!!

Oh, here comes the flood of memories.

I camped out on the ramp for every big game from the beginning of the 80-81 season until the end of the 91-92 season. In the early days, I tried bringing a sleeping bag and a lawnchair, but eventually realized that they were useless. As much as I wanted to, I could never get any sleep, so I gave up the pipe-dream of trying to sleep. Some people would actually set up tents. We would spend the time drinking, throwing the football on the ramp, and playing tapes on the ghetto blaster.

Even for lowly mid-week games, I always got to the assembly at least 3 hours before tip-off. The doors would open 2 hours before the game started, but I had to make sure that I got my favorite seats for me and the girlfriend. They were on the center aisle, 3 rows from the floor. Those seats don't even exist anymore, since they pushed the front edge of the student section back. The student section used to go all the way to the floor.
