Can't speak for him, but I do!

It was a great accomplishment for LSU to win the SEC by going undefeated for the 1st time in 50 yrs. no matter what happened in the BCSNCG.

It's also pretty damn neat we got to that game for the 2nd time in 5 yrs.

I'm trying to recall the last time LSU was in position to play for a NC twice within a 5 yr period...hmmmmmmmm.......

Watching the SECCG gave me a sick feeling and a huge sense of doubt. That, coupled with the looks on the players' faces on the BCS announcement show, didnt sit right with me. In the field of emergency medicine, we refer to this as a "feeling of impending doom". We know the rest of the story.

This. Watching the selection show LSU did not look enthused. At all.

A high school coach I know was with the team at the time. Said some of the players were indeed pissed about having to beat them again.

You're in the minority bc most lsu fans don't hold that conf championship too dear after 1/9. SEC championship turned out to be meaningless bc Bama was supposed to win it.

We were extremely fortunate to have won the first game. Don't be delusional like the Gumps can be. If they make half their FG...we lose that game

Amusing how all year, every year all we do is talk up winning the west to get to the SECCG just to have a shot at winning the SEC and maybe more.

After we do that, it's labeled suddenly "meaningless" cause we don't win the NC.

Just cause we fail to achieve the top goal in all of college football, it doesn't follow that all other goals become "meaningless".

You really aren't lucky when you play a great team heads up on their field and beat them.

Here are the attempted field goals by Bama:

1ST QTR: 4th and 7 at LSU 27 Cade Foster 44 yard field goal MISSED.
1ST QTR: 4th and 20 at LSU 33 Cade Foster 50 yard field goal MISSED.
2ND QTR: 4th and 17 at LSU 31 Jeremy Shelley 49 yard field goal BLOCKED, Eric Reid for 26 yards, to the Alab 48.
2ND QTR: 4th and 8 at LSU 17 Jeremy Shelley 34 yard field goal GOOD.
3RD QTR: 4th and 4 at LSU 29 Cade Foster 46 yard field goal GOOD.
OT: 4th and 20 at LSU 35 Cade Foster 52 yard field goal MISSED.

For comparison here are the LSU field goal attempts:

2ND QTR: 3rd and Goal at ALA 2 Drew Alleman 19 yard field goal GOOD.
4TH QTR: 4th and 8 at ALA 13 Drew Alleman 30 yard field goal GOOD.
OT: 3rd and Goal at ALA 8 Drew Alleman 25 yard field goal GOOD.

Note the following:

1) They missed 3 (not 4, one was blocked) long field goals. The shortest of those was 44 yards. If you look at their field goal stats on the year Cade Foster made 2 of 9 field goals. Them converting 2 of 5 attempts is markedly better than that average (especially considering the long distance).

LINK

quote:

2011 (SOPHOMORE): Cade Foster is the Crimson Tide's starting kicker on kickoffs and place-kicker on field goals longer than 40 yards ... is averaging 63.0 yards on 75 kickoffs this season and is 2-for-9 on field goals, hitting from 45 yards against Tennessee and 46 yards against LSU.

The other kicker was Jeremy Shelley who made the only attempt that wasn't blocked. If anything Bama made more of their field goals in that game than their statistics for the year indicate they should have.

2) LSU made their field goals because they were chip shots. They had attempts of 19, 30, and 25 yards because they were on the 2 yard line, 13 yard line, and 8 yard line. That is not accidental. That means you made deeper drives into their territory than Alabama was able to sustain in LSU territory.

3) LSU did much better on the ground than Alabama did. Our passing game was lousy betweeen JL and JJ but when you put up almost 150 yards on the ground against Bama and hold them to 96 yards rushing you have done some work.

I do agree that the team was not psyched to play Bama again (and agree you could see it in everyone other than Miles in the ESPN interview) because they had already beaten them on their field. I wish they had felt differently but I understand the reaction.

Wow. So now conference championships don't count?

And people who say they gave us the first game are simple minded. Their kicker(s) has a bad game and the game doesn't count, but JJ plays poorly in the title game and THAT game is the real LSU-Bama.

The statement that we had better athletes is valid? I disagree. I thinks it's a total matter of opinion and debate. Both were loaded with athletes. Arguments could be made either way.

And if we dont throw 2 picks we win win by double digits. See? We both can play that.

So a rematch with a revenge factor is the real game but beating them in a regular season grudge match at their place with their fans in a game where the loser was deemed to be out of the NC race at the time was meaningless? Did you see their fans and team afterward? It wasnt meaningless. I can't even believe I'm trying to convince a Tiger fan of this.

Conference Championships are great in years when winning a NC is not on the table. Like 2001. In years like 2003, 2007, 2011 it was all about the NC.

I listened to Jay Barker on an interview with ATL sports radio sometime around mid December (paraphrasing)- "You should've seen the looks on the players' faces following that game. The pain. The emotion. The tears. They realized that night that they had LOST a huge opportunity. The west, the conference and the NC was gone. They are a really good football team, but, are very fortunate to be getting a second chance". Unfortunately, the unthinkable happened, and we had to at their entitled asses again. We all take our sports differently, but, when I woke up on jan 10, I didn't feel like sec champs. I felt like BCS losers. The fact that we scored 0 made it more vivid. That was THE LEAST enjoyable undefeated/sec championship I've ever seen. Hats off to the victors. I just know in my heart that there is no way in hell we would've gotten the political lobbying to be in the superdome. With a those crimson tears, they still got to hoist the crystal trophy. Fkin travesty.

All I'm gonna say is that J squared is history, no more passes to your RB's back while he's trying to block for u.....there's a new QB in town & the Tide might want to prepare themselves........

Agreed. All the more reason we "must" win this yr. Things are in our favor. Particularly, location.. Ask anyone without a bama vs. lsu dog in the fight. I have a friends that are grads from auburn, UGA, Florida, ole miss, so car. They've all said the same thing- "dude, with what bama lost, what y'all WILL lose, THIS IS Y'ALLS YEAR."

So, being shut out in your own back yd in the NC, then turning around and losing at home the following season would make you feel good about competing against their program? So, we wanna transition into being Texas fans? (Playing second fiddle to Oklahoma ?Beating them every few years? Consistently losing the top recruits to them?) If you want to be second best, go root for Clemson. I guarantee bama wouldn't put up with shite like that. Numb_nuts.
