In the 90s, I recall Florida and Tennessee as the dominant teams. I wasn't saying the East ever had 5 or 6 very good teams, just that the east was better than the west, at least at the top.

I agree.. but never a dominant division like the West....which was the reason for my original suggestion.

Even if Ms St goes back to mediocre, it will still hurt us.
The BCS formula would calculate strength of schedule, common opponents, etc to the nth degree..now it is all about the EYE TEST and Politics.

There should be NO permanent cross division rivals...period. If teams like BAMA, TENN, AU and UGA have to play each other every year than they can feel free to all get in the same damn division. If they don't like that, we can continue to be split up, but still have no permanent rival and they can feel free to schedule their cross division rival as an OOC game in those years where they don't rotate naturally onto their schedule.

But allowing 4 teams to dictate scheduling was bad enough when it was only a 12 team league. Now that it effects 1o other programs it's beyond absurd.

Should the SEC change the schedules .. The ONE thing that needs to be done FIRST is ELIMINATE "common opponents". The schools from the SEC East and West that play each other need to be rotated. LSU almost never plays Vanderbilt, and has never played Mizzou as an SEC opponent (and wont play them until 2016). This system is a joke and needs to go.

This will never happen.

The SEC has shown that it places tremendous importance on the UT-Bama game and UGA-Auburn.

The common opponents will not be switched because of these games.

All ideas, opinions, suggestions, etc. are just a waste of time until people get serious about forcing the SEC HQ to relocate.

As long as they remain in Birmingham, their primary concern will be to take care of their home state and their darling Gumps.

They'll use the excuse of "tradition" to justify some of their actions then ignore it when it's not beneficial to them.

Screw the nine conference game idea unless they're willing to collaborate on the ideas from the other universities. To ignore 12 (sometimes 13) of the members and to ignore 10 of the 11 states should not be tolerated.

I think Saban is right, Every team in the sec should play each other to see who the best is! Surprises me how other coaches were against it.

Switching to a 9 game SEC schedule is a start to fixing it.

no it would not... NEITHER
forcing SEC teams to play a STRONGER schedule would only hurt the chances of getting to the Playoffs .. specially w-out the BCS formula..it is all about the "eye test" and the record.

This is all gonna work out in the near future with future expansion. The SEC is going to pick up 2 more teams and I predict like a Baylor and FSU will join. I think it will look like this:

East
Bama
Auburn
UT
Georgia
FSU
Vandy
Florida
South Car

West
Arky
Ole Miss
State
Mizzou
Baylor (or another Big 12)
LSU
A&M
Kentucky

Until then I would like to see the SEC drop non-conference and play a round robin and drop the SECCG. At the very least go to 9 games but eventually you are gonna see a pretty significant restructure of the divisions. It's pretty safe to say from talk around that Bama and AU will head east on the next round. All of this also makes geographical sense as well. Mizzou, LSU and A&M won't be traveling to Florida, South Carolina and the state of Alabama, South Car and all east teams wont be going to Baton Rouge, Fayetteville and Missouri. The close proximity will bring back good regional games.

You can't possibly think those divisions are remotely equal
