To be eligible for the LSU Athletic Hall of Fame in the Athlete category, the individual must have been granted or earned baccalaureate, professional or graduate degree by LSU or by some other regionally accredited institution of higher learning, have earned one or more letters in a varsity sport at LSU, have gained national distinction through superlative performance as an athlete, and have established a personal reputation for character and citizenship which reflects favorably on the University.

I think this wording using the word "granted" creates a loophole to backdoor Maravich into the Hall. Good enough to have the Assembly Center named after him but not be inducted into the Hall? It's time.

Why even have a criteria then? Would you really care if you were or were not in the hall of fame, if the damn building was named after you?

I don't think he cares either way.

I understand that he was not a model student/citizen but he still deserves to be in the HoF

I'd prefer not. I suspect most alumni agree. Nothing against Pete.

He's in the NBA HOF isn't he?

Why do we care? He's always the best bb player to ever walk the campus.

We don't need to enshrine him to know that.

Whenever a thread like this pops up, I think about Kevin Faulk's induction speech and the promise he made to his mom to graduate.

I'm glad Pete has a building named after him, but the degree is what makes the HOF special.

Give him a statue in the front of the assembly center. Has LSU done that? I think they have one of someone else there don't they?

No. He has the building. And Shaq has a statue. You know who needs a new honor? Bob Pettit. He has a rundown street away from the main campus. Do something for him.

Also, as far as honors go, I'm more concerned about the fact that Tittle and Faulk don't have their numbers retired. Also some of the track athletes. How many people know that the person who placed 2nd to Usain Bolt in Beijing went to LSU and broke the 60m NCAA record? Not many I bet, and probably in part because they don't get the honors they deserve.
