Nabers is open in the middle and should have got the ball right then for 5 or 6 yards. The other 2 aren't great options.

Williams isn't as open as that screen shot leads you to believe. I think Malik is the best case for what Daniels needs to improve on. When Daniels finished his drop Malik wasn't open. but two shuffles of the feet and you have to get that ball out.

It's probably only a 5 yard gain if it's completed, and Malik isn't as open as the screen shot leads you to believe either (go watch the Skycam for reference) but if you get that ball out at the right time you can complete it and maybe Malik makes a man miss and picks up some additional yards.

The issue is, by the time Daniels was ready to deliver the ball Malik wasn't open any longer, and he never made it to his fourth progression. That throw out to Jaray would have been difficult regardless. I have been adamant all week that it's a WR and a QB problem, but this particular play it was more on Daniels than the receivers.

You don't throw that against a squatting corner. Ever.

Jaray isn't open anymore because Jaden just stares at Mason and doesn't go through progressions.

Daniels is a running qb though, so he thinks he can get more than 5 yds on his feet until the pocket collapses on him.
That's a beautiful pocket and he should throw the damn ball before it collapses.

he should be hitting Nabers here (as in ball should already be hitting Malik in the 8 right about this point):

hit him in stride and it's a bigger play than just the 5-6 yards he would have gotten in your pic.

If you watch the video, its obvious he is staring down Taylor the entire time and once he is covered, he scrambles

and it doesn't make sense for him to be staring down Taylor as it appears Taylor jobs was almost to "pick" for Nabors, so Nabors should have been option #1

that is just inexcusable for JD

This is so infuriating. Throw the ball Jayden.

The correct throw wouldve been to Williams due to the fact that the corner is backing up in that picture. Easy pitch and catch. Most likely gets 7-8 yards possible first down. Nabors would have also been an option but the ball shouldve already been thrown when Nabors turns around. Daniels just doesnt have the feel or ability it seems to anticipate a throw.

The ball should have already been thrown to one of those three. You cant just wait until you see their eyes. You got to throw them open and throw to a spot. Even though he didn’t do that he could still throw it to Nabers.

However, it’s 1st down, so I agree he should get the quick yds to Nabers.

If defenses are going to give you an easy 5 yard pitch and catch right in front of you, you take that 9/10 times. The 10th time being a blown coverage downfield.

I can’t tell who’s on the bottom right but I’m 3-4 steps he’s going to be wide open as well.

The only way Jaray gets the ball in this situation is if that’s his 1st read. He was never getting the ball & wasn’t even in the progression. Daniels is making 1 read on the play & it’s either Taylor or Nabers. Check down to Williams.

He decided to not throw to Nabers.

So what. This is a stupid example bc you know what happened 2 plays later? Daniels runs for 10 yds on 3rd & 7 for a 1st down.

Auburn appears to be in Man Under Cover 2.

Nabers or Boutte is the correct answer. The 3rd option at the top is to the far side of the field and is a pick 6 waiting to happen.

Mason Smith had safety help and the 5th option is covered. He has to see that pre-snap

Correct. Throw it to him there and if he can break one tackle he has a long gain or if not at least 5-6yds.

He’s wide open. It’s just too late to get him the ball.

If the CB was playing that far off the ball should have been out before this picture was even taken and it’s an easy 8 yards, more if he can make the CB miss.

Anyone downvoting this doesn’t know football. Jenkins has a 5 yard cushion when coming out of his break, and on top of that Nabers is running wide open right across JD’s face with Taylor clearing out the LB in the middle.

People complaining about the route tree and play design are just making excuses. Daniels doesn’t appear to be reading the coverage pre or post snap at all. If his first read is covered he panics and tucks it.

At least 1 guy, even if a dummy route, should be pulling a corner/nickel and a safety deeper. The entire advantage to putting 4 guys out there is to tax the defense.

You mean exactly like the receiver just behind Malik Nabers is doing?

I believe that is the TE but I’m not sure.

Williams would have his guy in space on his heels.

Nabers would be 1 on 1 with his guy in space.

Thomas (or whoever that is at the top of the screen) is open on the out route.

Taylor probably shed through that defender into open space, but may have another defender over the top.

The ball should've already been out, though.

This. Jenkins isn't worth talking about because he wasn't in the progression when he was open. You could play that game all day of looking at WR's that were open but the QB missed him because he wasn't in the progression yet. It's like "you can call holding on every play."
