So, what you are saying, is that if Shoop jumped to LSU, he wouldn't have enough talent to be successful?

Being successful like Chavis was who knows. But his defense would not put up the same numbers playing SEC West teams. Just go look at what Bama, Arkansas and Texas AM and Georgia put up against his defense while at Vandy. The SEC East has been down the last several years. Again, his biggest downfall are ties to recruiting in the South.

Shop has made top 25 defenses with mediocre talent. LSU would have given him elite talent. Kinda makes me think he could've done something special here. Some guys have blinders on.

And what recruiting ties did Chavis have when he got here? Actually, what recruiting did Chavis do?

his defense shut out ohio state in the 2nd half of their game and took them to OT

ohio state scored 42 on alabama with a 3rd string QB

So people like you still believe Penn St. had a better defense than Bama. That was one game big deal. If PSU played in the SEC they would get exposed having to play talented teams weak in and week out. I've done proved my point I told you to look at his what his defenses did against SEC West opponents while at Vandy. They pretty much got destroyed.

Learn how to reply to the right person... "People like me" questioned your stupidity about the southern recruiting ties, not about struggling against SEC offenses. Maybe you confused Stoops with Chavis... he gave up over 500 yards to a couple of SEC west teams.

I'm curious by this. Pretty sure the SEC was overrated as hell this year. So maybe, just maybe his defense might have been able to do decent in this league. What offense would he have trouble stopping in the SEC this year?

Penn State defense was very legit. Especially when you consider how bad their offense was. Worst OL in the B1G, no running game etc. I think only two teams put more than 30 points on them, one of those was Ohio State in double overtime.

His D gave up 114 yards passing and 107 yards rushing against GA in an upset win. 2 of those games occured in his first year at Vandy. A&M was his only bad performance. Manziel did this to lots of teams, Chavis has Sumlins number though.

Vandy had the 5th ranked D in the SEC last year. The 5th ranked his secon year. The 6 ranked in his first year. All 3 were top 25 in the nation. He did this with 2 and 3 star players. Vandy has 10 NFL players right now, only 4 are Defensive players. (All Secondary, Shoops specialty) LSU has 42 with 24 being on Defense. So top 25 D with 4 NFL caliber players vs top 15 with 24 NFL caliber players.

This is all a moot point because he's not coming here, but the dude can flat out coach. And whoever compared Boise in the Mountain West to Penn St. in the Big 10 should remove themselves from conversations about football. The Big 10's best just beat our best with their 3rd string QB. They are 3-1 against ranked teams in bowl games while the vaunted SEC is 2-5. His performance this year at Penn St. is impressive being it's his first year and he 's playing with a hand tied behind his back due to sanctions killing that roster.

edit: Just realizing it was you that brought up Peterson. Your thread is bad and you should feel bad.

I figured the Admin would learn after letting Saban slip away with a "I hope you don't leave either". Great coaches, even a good quality SEC coach is hard to find. We got lucky picking up Saban.
