SG President Letter to Editor, RE: Booing

Dear Students,
One of the most rewarding experiences as a student attending football games is being a part of the most engaged, spirited, and devoted student section in the nation. There have been countless games in Tiger Stadium throughout the years that have arguably been decided by the home field advantage our students give to the team.
In my opinion, it is this sense of community between students and student-athletes that creates avid support for the team. Unfortunately, this sense of unity was absent in the early stages of the LSU vs. New Mexico State game. Obvious and pointed jeering was coming from the student section every time Coach Miles put sophomore quarterback Anthony Jennings into the game. As Jennings is a fellow student who is devoting his entire LSU career to representing us on the field, shouldn’t we, as peers, extend our unwavering support for him? I understand that our fans have the highest expectations from their football program year in and year out. Also, I understand that many may question decisions by the coaching staff from time to time; however, I do not believe booing a fellow student is the right call. Each player’s hard work and dedication to the program should be applauded.
As a student body, we should grow from this experience. LSU students are leaders in almost every field. If we continue to support each other, then we will recapture our unified identity.

I think that he is way over estimating the maturity of the students. This will not go over well.

Could've deleted a lot of words and just said " I do not believe booing a fellow student is the right call. "

FWIW, it was the student section that started the booing and "we want Harris" chants after the very first drive.

The boo birds can't be reasoned with. All the chastising in the world won't change a thing. By the time we're adults, that brand of decency is either in us or it isn't.
Chiding them actually only makes them more defiant.

This is great and all. How about poll questions/approval ratings on the front page of lsusports.net instead of crying about the only way the fans can express their opinion of the mind boggling crap going on.

I blame it on Les Miles. He knew Jennings would get booed but he kept pushing him out there.

Somewhere AJ is cringing as crap like this is like rubbing salt on the wound.

You guys abuse the term PC so much that I'm actually interested in knowing what it means to you.
If it's only a set of social conventions or socially prescribed acceptable behaviors backed by the threat of social sanction, believe it or not, you're PC too. You just care about different shite.
