SIAP.

It's appropriate we play Auburn at JH this week because 20 years ago today the old Auburn sports arena burned down during the LSU/AU game. A bizarre night, and a classic football game.

I was there. It was really amazing. We were opposite if the fire and at first thought the stadium was on fire. Tv doesn't do it justice.

Good point from Bowden:

quote:

"We didn't have the terrorism fears we have today, and I know that's not an easy topic to bring up, but we didn't fear things like that," he said. "I imagine it would cause total panic if something like that happened today under these times that we're in."

I was there, as a guest of my sales rep, an Auburn grad. We had tickets on the 49 yard line--on the Auburn side. For the first 10 minutes of the game, nobody on our side was watching the game--we were watching the fire. What you saw on TV was exactly the vantage point we had from our side--we first thought the opposite stands were on fire. I taped the game back home in Denver at the same time I was actually there in Auburn to watch it, and the video from the telecast was exactly what I saw live. Everyone on our side was screaming at the opposite stands to look at the fire, but initially they didn't pay any attention. Eventually, they saw the opposite stands pointing to their side, and saw the fire. About that time, the stadium announcer finally came on and assured everyone that the fire was in an adjacent building and not a part of the stadium, and that everyone was safe.

A really weird game to be exact, but a Tiger (LSU) win. We also had a blocked extra point against Auburn returned for a 2 point score as well.

Same here. It looked like the fire was closer to the stadium than it was.

We were in the LSU section in the NE EZ and had arguably the worst view of the fire. We had no idea what the PA guy was talking about and then noticed smoke.

I recall "Please don't panic. The fire is outside the stadium" being said over and over and over again.

I was like shut up dude, no one's paying attention to the fire or leaving. We were all watching the fricking game.

I was in my 2nd year at LSU and watched that game at a keg party. During those years, Auburn was definitely the biggest rival for LSU. Every year seemed like a thriller, Bring Back the Magic, The Barn Burner (?), The Diesel/Dameyune comeback game, The Cigar Game, the 9/11 delayed game, etc.
