Florida state for example. I know they don't have a CWS win but they're as consistent a team as you can have in NCAA baseball in terms of appearing in the tournament and making deep runs. They're in a talent rich state and benefit from other great athletics as well, yet they're regional game on a Saturday, has almost nobody in attendance. It's crazy to think even these other national powers like FSU and UNC and LSU will still absolutely hammer them in fan support.

Geaux Tigers

ETA: I understand that LSU (as well as a few other SEC programs) are outliers. I'm just glad our program has such a following. It makes it so much more fun to follow.

The truth is this: in the SEC, in terms of consistent fan support, only LSU, Arkie, State, Ole Miss, and Carolina have any to speak of. And Carolina's is waning.

I have been to LSU series at UGA, UF, Auburn, bama, and Tenn and they simply have few fans. A&M, if they would expand their park, could move up to a bigger time status in terms of fan support.

Outside the SEC, fans in large numbers at CBB games are almost nonexistent.

UCLA has had a great program through the years and they are still at old Jacky Robinson stadium which hold like 900 people. Because there is no reason to put more seats in since they rarely sell out.

Besides the obvious outliers like LSU the coming of age of live streaming will kill college baseball attendance more than any other sport

it can't really kill what never has existed...

live streaming encourages attendance by fostering people to become fans. if you can watch games you're more likely to attend them

Florida has absolutely no reason to expand McKethan... Team is the #3 overall seed and can't even fill out that bandbox in a regional on Friday night.

It seems some LSU fans still have a disconnect as to what college baseball is throughout the vast majority of the country.

What we have is truly special and unique. Only 11 teams in the entire country averaged more than 4000 in attendance last year and television ratings on national broadcasts are abysmal.

I enjoy LSU baseball but in all honesty I rarely watch even a half-inning of a college baseball game LSU is not in and if LSU was not any good I'd probably watch as much college baseball as I would watch college tennis.

And I think that's the way it is in the vast majority of the rest of the country.

I'm almost positive they have a CWS win, just not a CWS championship.

Like the article in the paper the other day noted, we're killing it with our baseball team.

College baseball has always been a niche sport that you had to attend to watch the games. Now u can do it from you're home. This will have a major impact on financial statements on schools outside the sec that do not have agreements with espn and the like

and not just LSU...

Tulane was second in the American conference in attendance with a crappy team

Louisiana Tech was 3rd in CUSA

Southeastern led the Southland

ULL was almost three times more than anyone else in the Sun Belt

those conferences aren't streaming enough games for it to really matter. you might see one Southland game in a weekend across the whole conference

SEC is different bc streaming is going to expose LSU to all Louisiana, etc. those people like me that get to watch games won't go to midweek games, but they're fans who might drive in on a weekend. i guess they're fans who might skip the McNeese or Northwestern St. or ULM game in favor of watching LSU and so on, but they can't blame the SEC for that

Maybe you're right. But I think that it's pretty easy to get to most college baseball games, the tickets are cheap to bring the family and the view is better than say a football game (for most seats that a regular guy could afford in Tiger Stadium)

I know there aren't a ton of college baseball fans, but the ones that go seem to cherish the experience. So given the other factors in play, it shouldn't diminish the attendance, but maybe boost overall viewership with the addition of online viewers.

Who knows?

School and community have to commit to it. Skip obviously wrote the book on how to do this but it's not impossible. Hell the Cajuns are constantly top 15 in attendance and now have a 5k seat park and in the grand scheme of college athletics, that shouldn't happen. But the school and city have made it a priority. The deal is a) have a good team. b). You have to create an experience for the fan. Not just watching a ball game.

USM is another team that has pretty good attendance for baseball. It's funny they don't have much suooort in other sports but baseball seems to be very popular in Hattiesburg. HS baseball in the area is also popular and very strong
