Just to add to the discussion, the guy did NOT have any alcohol of other contraband on him.

he was just exercising his right to free speech. Unless im interfering with a cop in the commission of his duty anyone can say anything they want to a cop, or anyone else for that matter, and unless its defamation, slander, or libel there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it.

Technically the cop had no probable cause to search my friend further and what he did constitutes a battery.

Had a cop pull me aside before a Vandy game in the late 90's and tell me that if I went ahead and told him I was sneaking something in he would "go easy on me(my zip=loc taped to my crotch had come open and was leaking everywhere-yeah, I'm an idiot ) I pulled out the leaky baggy and he told me to throw it away and then threw me out anyway!

As a guy who has been sitting in the student section since 2001 (my sister is 4 years older than me and I'm now in graduate school for those who care how), I have a few things to say.

1) The ridiculous cops: I know a lot of d-bags have been saying that we need to respect the cops, but they obviously haven't walked into the stadium since 2007. In the past two years, I have been forced to take my boots off, had my nuts patted down three times, had a cop bruise my armpit while searching me (I'm a large guy, the cop seriously did an upward judo chop to check my armpit) and had a legitimate cell phone taken out of my pocket from the cop because he thought it was a flask. The students have a right to be mad, I don't like getting raped and some dude sticking his hand into the pocket of my pants is not cool.

2) It doesn't affect the atmosphere: Stupid statement. Everyone knows that the student sections is the loudest part of the stadium (probably louder than the other 90,000 people combined) and having a bunch of hung over and dehydrated students in there for the fourth quarter leads to lackluster participation when it counts. The student section is the spearhead for the rest of the crowd. We are the ones that shake the stadium when we win the coin toss because that's how jacked we are just to be there. If you don't understand that, than you obviously haven't been to many games.

3) Do they just take away your alcohol: No. They take it, write you an MIP if you are underage, write a report to the university, make you go to an alcoholism class, make you write a paper on how sorry you are for breaking rules and how you will never drink again because alcohol is the devil (exaggerated, but not much) and then make you clean up tiger stadium at 5 AM on a Sunday after a gameday. Bit extreme if you ask me, especially for someone who is of legal age.

The atmosphere hasn't fallen off- The student section is a complete shell of what it used to be. I know that part of it is me getting older, but even if I don't account for that, I would say the atmosphere is about at 30% of what it used to be. Between making the band politically correct, cracking down on booze, and putting a bunch of brown shirts in the stadium to make sure no one has too much fun, the student section has been killed and replaced by a clone, engineered by the university.

I don't complain often and I try to avoid posting on the rant, but this had to be addressed. I hope all of you fun hating assholes that have been posting here stop reading the rant and go to some baptist meeting where you can discuss how sinful alcohol, fun and the cool people who won't let you hand out with them are.

Sincerely,

THF.

P.S. If you don't like this, you probably suck.

I'm as goody-goody as one can get ... I think that's rather evident by now, and they friggin make ME nervous, there's like 20 of them.

And Tiger Rag won't be back, heck we'll lose Oh-We-Oh not long after the first TD against UF. It's already been awful close.

You can frick with rent-a-cops but don't screw with Troopers man. It's not a weekend gig for them.

the law is stupid. A minor in possession as a legal adult...the federal government forced La. to change its law which was completely ridiculous and completely overstepping the boundaries IMO

Exactly. It's freaking STATE TROOPERS. Not some security flashlight cops. LSU obviously wants them there for a reason. Everyone of them I have dealt with have been beyond nice.

As I said before, I've never had a problem with them. I've even talked to them while just hanging around waiting on my friends to get through.

This just ain't true--you've been going since 2001 and judge in that small time based on your personal experiences. You can't see the forest for your own trees. I was in the student section for 8 years also, including grad school, and have been a season ticket holder in the NE section ever since (about 2O years. Although policies come and go and fascist policeman do exist, the student section is as loud and rowdy as ever coming from my viewpoint. The only time it's a "shell" is at a lackluster game in the fourth quarter.

Sorry you felt violated, and there are some over the top cops--as far back as 1983 after the Fl.St. game we saw BR cops beating students with nightsticks as they jumped the fence onto the field.

Same shite, different decade.

My advice to all you pissed off students? Do what we did, don't mouth off to a cop.

POST OF THE YEAR imho.

I am 22 years old and I have to give my flask to someone who sits in a non-student section seat and then get it from them after I get into the game. Not everyone is so lucky to get by doing it this way. And it is ridiculous walking through the gates to get in. I have gotten groped and patted down at every single part of my body. Honestly, the SS line to get into the stadium goes alot slower and takes a lot longer to get in due to the new standards of scrutiny by the cops. I had a cop inspect my freakin chapstick b/c he thought I had drugs inside there
