New Orleans is in great position for all of these games. The location, the Dome, hotels ... they arguably have the most leverage.

this will all but eliminate bullshite teams like Cinn and Hawaii playing here

Again that's if neither team goes to the playoffs. If one does then they'd probably open it up to whomever.

They said this game will be between the SEC and Big XII. So, if one or both teams make the playoffs, then the conferences will send another team to the game. But both teams will be from the SEC and Big XII.

runner-ups go to this game

ark. would be in this game, seeing both LSU and AL went to championship

chances are slim to none this will have both champions

So, has the SEC given up on the position that the #2 SEC team (non-conference champion) should be eligible for the 4 team playoff if they are ranked in the top 4?

The info on this new bowl makes it sound like it has.

i think that’s the last remaining fight between the SEC, Big 10, and PAC 10. They only want conference winners but i think the SEC holds the cards here. it’s not fair to have SEC teams beat up on each other then limited to only one team for the final 4.

Chances are, that will be the case every year. According to what I just saw, every year of the BCS has seen at least 1 team from the Big 12 and SEC in the top 4. Only once with the current members. 2001 where Nebraska and Colorado were the only teams from the 2 conferences in the top 4.

Nor sure if accurate but I thought I saw where if one or both conference champs were in the final four then the next teams in order would play each other

the SEC and Big 12 are positioning themselves and dictating who will play and where they play, seeing the bowl contracts expire in ‘13

if one teams goes, the runner-up is up, but if 2 go, then the 3rd ranked team will represent.

Hope Slive keeps the pressure up on getting the 2nd SEC team into the 4 team playoff.

Here's why this agreement is so scintillating. The SEC Champ (and usually the second best SEC team) will never again have to worry about playing a garbage team in the postseason. This agreement has effectively FROZEN OUT from the "New Sugar Bowl" teams like Boise State, Hawaii, etc. and all other teams like them that play garbage schedules, all Big East teams, all ACC teams, all Big Ten teams, and all mid-major garbage schools like Houston. The only way these teams will be allowed to compete against the top 2 (and sometimes top 3) teams in the SEC in the postseason will be if they make it into the top 4 in the country, because:

"The champions of the two conferences [SEC and Big 12] will play in the bowl game — site and date undetermined — unless they are among the four teams chosen for the potential playoff to determine the national champion.

If the conference champions are not available, the next best teams would participate."

The "Best 4" vs "Conference Champs" debate has to have some input from the TV folks paying for the broadcasts, right?

Under what scenario would TV execs support a #8 Oregon over a #1 LSU and #4 Bama getting into playoffs? The B1G has a major flaw in their scenario.

This proposed SEC/Big12 game helps expose it. Whenever the PAC and B1G whine about the Rose Bowl, the SEC & Big 12 can say "We've set up a game to do exactly what the Rose Bowl can do, and thrive, in the context of a 4 team playoff."

And as a poster above said, no more bullshite bowls taking 1/3 of the money for no good reason. The SEC and Big 12 members will be much richer once this game starts making $40 Million or $50 Million or more.

I guess this means Towson has no shot to get in the NC game.

I'm not sure I like a tie in with the Big 12 in that the Big 12 seems to be a conference on the decline with the departures of Nebraska, Colorada, Texas A&m, and Missouri. It's becoming a three state conference of Kansas, Okalahoma, and Texas. I don't know if we should be putting them on equal footing with the SEC.
