The Big 12 and the Southeastern conferences have announced a deal that will pit their football regular-season champions against each other in a New Year's Day bowl game for five years beginning in 2014, positioning themselves for the expected switch to a four-team playoff.

About time we get a conference champion and not an At-Large. I like the move and it's a "close" conference in terms of location to our schools. Might be a nice rivalry.

I like the idea, but I don't really like the possibility of the SEC not in the Sugar bowl. I'm sure it's still possible, as Arlington, TX and New Orleans seem like the most logical locations, but I bet this ends up at Jerry's World

I'm sorry to hear that.

I'm sure the SEC will not want to lose it's claim to the Sugar Bowl which we've played in forever.

the CF final four will go out for bid, so New Orleans should end up with one of the three games. and the SEC vs. Big 12, not sure, but probably will go out for bid too.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Don't be, it's not bad out here. I live in a safe neighborhood. Guess it helps I walk to city hall, the police station, and the mayors house.

This confuses me.

This won't take the place of whatever bowl we were supposed to be in, right?

We're going to play in 2 bowl games now?

You go play in the "Sugar Bowl" vs the Big 12. If you win you move to the finals and get to play in the National Championship vs Boise St. So you could play in two "bowls"

Very likely, my guess on the top 4 possible sites would be:
1) Arlington,TX
2) New Orleans
3) Houston
4) Atlanta
If it had a dome stadium, or even a nice stadium, I would say Memphis would be a great location. That would probably be about as close as center of the SEC/Big 12 footprint that you could get(without looking at a map)

So it would be against the winner of the Big 12, correct?

I was just confused because ESPN didn't really talk about the details. Just mentioned a bowl game against the Big 12.

Not 100% we'd be locked in with them. It sounds to me like it would be similar to how it is now. The SEC/BIG 12 conference champions would play in the Sugar Bowl(just for example) whereas before it was the SEC Champion vs At Large. The SEC champion is locked in the Sugar Bowl now under the BCS unless they are selected for the BCSNCG. Under the new playoff we'd be locked in the Sugar Bowl unless we were selected for the Semi-Finals against another top 4 team. It could still be at the Sugar Bowl, but it doesn't have to be.
