Okay I know this has been discussed before but can someone please explain to me how the seeding would work if we win this Saturday and Vanderbilt wins and all top 4 teams have a conference record of 12-6? Does tie breaker go by overall record OR head to head record between the four teams to determine the seeding?

Head to head. We would be #1 seed.

Tie breaker is combined record against all 4 co-champs.

LSU would be #1 seed.
Vandy #2.
TAMU #3.
UK #4.

So being #1 seed means we also win regular season championship also. Not bad for a team with such a terrible coach. That's sarcasm by the way. This team has done as well as expected despite it's sometimes frustrating defense and lack of effort. When they want to they win games. Let's hope they want to beat Kentucky bad enough to have their motors going full blast.

I hope like hell they beat UK, but let's be realistic. They lost to UT and Arkansas by 20 then gave up 62 in a half to UF and let Mizzou out score them by 19 in the 2nd half.

Each game is different.

You're not wrong, but LSU also beat UK by 18 points this season. The season is on the line. Let's not pretend they aren't capable either.

I'd rather be optimistic and let it play out.

I wouldn't go that far Tom. I think just saying we were picked by the media to finish third or fourth in the SEC and translating that to we have done as well as expected is rationalizing underachieving play....IMHO.

We did not play as well as I expected, I guess I should just say that and not assume expectations of others, but I would guess more others than not, LSU fans or otherwise, probably really expected a bit better.

And to whit that's a big if....12-6 assumes a win that we probably won't get....though I'd love it and hope for it.

They do co-champs. We would be a co champ.

Link shows all scenarios. Disregard top grid after SC's loss to UGA last night.

If games follow chalk (A&M, UK, Ark wins), LSU would be #3 seed in tourney (win tiebreaker over Vandy).

This team played as it was expected to in SEC play going into the season they were picked 11-7 12-6 in SEC play by most people. Going into SEC play no one thought they would get there judging by how they had played. The problem is this team did not live up to expectations in non conference. If they win 2 more games in non conference they would be on the right side of the bubble. Had the shot in the air to win in two of those losses and led OU for most of the game. This season is all about missed opportunities.

One year ago today LSU got blasted by a 6-10 Tennessee team at the PMAC at a time when their NCAAT chances were very much in doubt. They then went to Arkansas 3 days later and beat a (then) 13-4 Ark. team without Jordan Mickey.

Jones' teams at LSU have been consistently inconsistent (which I guess in an oxymoron). However, they generally play their best against the best competition. Jones coaches with more passion and the team plays with more passion (especially on defense) in those games. I don't expect tomorrow to be any different

Per the chart, excellent find, LSU finishes no lower than a two seed with a win and still has a very good chance at a double bye with a loss. The only way they end up the five seed is if USCSe wins on the road at Arky and A&M loses at home against Vandy.

My expectations for SEC play were 13-5/12-6 at worst before the season got underway and seeing how things played out and how good the other teams were in the SEC, I actually thing that was reasonable and probably what should have occurred. Looks like now we'll finish 11-7.

Not sure what prognosticators and SEC writers expected record-wise but I bet the vast majority would say they expected LSU to do better than they did this year, and I think that would be a reasonable thing to say.

For the whole season yes they have not lived up to expectations and should get criticism they are getting. The non conference was bad but i was pointing out just conference play will be at worst 11-7 which is right around what was a reasonable expectation give or take a game or two.

If they miss the tourney which is the chalk right now it will be because of non conference play not conference play. Yes they lost to some bad teams in conference play but they have won some that going into the game they were not the favorite and they even out over the course of the SEC record.

Well it would all seem to hinge on tomorrow's game. Yes, I agree that the overall season has been somewhat disappointing and I wish we had won three or four more of those out of conference games. But can you really tell me that if we beat Kentucky again it won't exceed your expectations in conference? I mean come on - beat Kentucky twice, regular season co-champs and number one seed in the conference tourney? You're a long time fan. How many times has LSU basketball exceeded that? Twice maybe?

Wake Forest was big at this point. We had Victor and Blakeney and still lost at home.

But to your point that 11-7 is/was reasonable in the SEC...I just can't go along with that. We could go game-by-game and make a case that it's reasonable but we watched it happen. For me it's still a disappointment.

Now tomorrow is a huge opportunity. I'd love for our boys and CJJ to make this post look foolish....nothing would make me happier.
