I like it except LSU should keep Florida

No... While I love the Florida rivalry (now), playing them every other year is a perfectly reasonable change.

Bama, Ole Miss, & A&M are 3 good choices for us. Auburn game has been great also.

A&M (geography), Ole Miss (geography + tradition), and Miss St (geography + historically longest SEC rival), would prob be the best in a perfect world, IMHO. All others rotating on 2-year cycle, with Bama & Auburn on alternating years to always have one of them.

No way on Florida. It would almost certainly be
1. Texas A&M
2. Ole Miss
3. Bama

The first 2 are locks.

How would A&M be a lock over Bama?

I like it, but basically any change would be better than the current schedule set up.

I would venture to bet the SEC home office would move out of Alabama before the schedule format would change......it will never happen.

It's not a bad idea. And just like always, the first game against Bama wouldn't really matter.

Florida would straight up quit on "odd years."
UGA, USC, UT, AU, LSU, MSU, Miss, aTm.
or
UGA, USC, UT, UA, Ark, UK, Mizzou, Vandy.

The simple solution, which has been brought up many times is that if
Bama/TN and GA/Auburn insist on playing each other, put them all in the
east and move MO and KY to the west. Times change, but at this point,
football would be far more balanced. Then do a straight rotation o the teams
in the opposite division so you play everyone at least every 3 years

I listed them in order of likelihood. Not our preference. More a result of A&M 100% needing to have us in their permanent 3. Bama doesn't need us. They need Auburn and Tennessee before us.

Regardless, we would probably be Bama's pick for their 3rd. So it would still be very likely we get Bama as well.

I would put the percentages of likelihood in this order:
A&M 100%
Ole Miss 100%
Bama 70%
Auburn 20%
Arkansas 5%
State 5%

Auburn 20%

State 5%

ALL TIME Records vs:
A&M 31-20-3 (since 1899)
Ole Miss 59-41-4 (since 1894)
Bama 25-50-5 (since 1895)
Auburn 28-21-1 (since 1901)
Arkansas 37-22-2 (since 1901)
Mississippi State 72-34-3 (since 1896)

SO... again, I think A&M, Ole Miss, and Miss St make the most sense, from a geographically and historically combined standpoint. Bama definitely has historical significance, but has also been GREATLY influenced in this discussion due to recent history (Saban).

ETA: it's interesting to note that Arkansas only joined the SEC in 1992, but we have played them 11 more times than Auburn.

I hope the SEC grows a pair and makes it 9 conference games

If it's a 9 game schedule, then they need to have all teams in each division have the same number of home games. Even years the west has 5 home and 4 away, odd years the east has 5 home and 4 away.

Only a handful are true rivalries anyway and those could still be played as ooc games when not on the sec schedule.

I personally think OOC games vs. Conf opponents is a very poor (not to mention LAZY) idea that needs to die. There are much better alternatives, such as the one floated by this article and several others.

You consider A&M a bigger rival than Bama?

I feel like each team in the league would need to submit a preference list. And they will mix and match from there. Our list would be something like:
1. Bama
2. Ole Miss
3. Auburn
4. A&M
5. Arkansas
6. State

We would be #1 on A&M's list and #2 on Ole Miss list... We might be #2 on State's list but there's no way they'd be above #5 on ours.

Bama would be our #1 and they would have us listed at #3. Auburn probably lists us at #3 as well. I don't see how State gets the nod over these two.

Arkansas could also make this a clusterfrick if they list us as their #1.

Fair enough, IF there is this hypothetical "preference list" involved in the process. But obviously I think geography is a considerable factor as well and stand by my choices based on that and overall history with the teams.

Bottom line, I think this 3-team rivalry and rotate ALL other teams every 2 years is the best plan proposed to date.

ETA: AGREED on Arky creating a SNAFU in this plan (and they of course meet my geography argument as well).

ETA2: Not so sure Bama would be #1 on LSU's official "preference list". Sure, maybe from a fan perspective, but not at all 100% from the LSU Football Ops & Athletic Dept.

It would be interesting to see how it would play out. Geography would definitely be a factor.

Im trying to think of a way to make it fair but there is always a scenario where one team gets to play Vandy and another has to play UF.
I know it would stack the East temporarily, but if Bama and Auburn had been moved to the East when Mizzou and A&M joined everything would've been fine. All the rivalries that cause this crap would have been in the same division and the permanent opponent could've been scrapped.

While true, and a decent solution, this still does not allow you to cycle through ALL of the SEC teams EVERY 2 years. I like this new proposal better. Every 4-year player should have an opportunity to visit EVERY SEC stadium in their career. If you're good enough to leave after 3, so be it... the NFL $ (and BETTER stadiums) more than makes up for missing a few SEC teams.
