Nick Saban preaches dominance by his team over opponents.

For him to go for a fourth and one in his side of the field...

For him to panic and try to go for it with 30 seconds left in the first half...

and

For him to run the gimmick "Clap, check with me" play in the third quarter resulting in the 67 yard touchdown tells me he knew this LSU team was dominating his Alabama squad.

This was a beat down and he knew it which is why on the sideline several times he just threw his hands up during the game, not in anger, but in resolution, knowing there was nothing he could do to avoid the inevitable!

Geaux Tigers!

Not to mention a rocking Tiger Stadium at night to make Mac Jones shite his pants.

If we play them 10 times on a neutral field, our average score differential would be 14 points. We are significantly better.

I agree that Saban knew he'd have to keep the ball out of Burrow's hands but this was not a "trick" play. Teams scout each other to finds strengths and weaknesses. They saw something they thought they could take advantage of just like any other play they put into their scheme. Same as if they see a CB playing a certain way on a particular down and distance. No trick play here, if it doesn't work you still run a go route and check down if it's not there with minimal risk.

Gimmicks are called gimmicks because they only work sparingly in very particular circumstances, or before their existence is known. That won’t happen again because we know it exists. It’s a gimmick.

Now, it was still a great scouting effort, and good design. Doesn’t make it not a gimmick though

For you I edited the post to remove the word “trick” but I while I applaud their “shadow staff” for seeing this, I agree with Hurricane Tiger, it was still a gimmick.
Saban is not used to being forced to run gimmick plays, so my initial point stands.
For the record, I did not downvote your post.

I thought your post was solid and I don't care about votes either way. That's why I started by saying I agree with your point. Call it a gimmick if you want it doesn't matter. They saw a weakness and exploited it just like they'll do every week.

I get what you're saying, but if this wasn't a trick play, then there is no such thing as a trick play.

In my opinion, the highest respect Saban gave was right after the game in his presser when he said that "There are no weaknesses on their offense".

He had that same look he had in last year's championship game, he knew his defense wasn't good enough to stop them.

Like I said during the game, when saban is losing and CALM on the sideline instead of throwing temper tantrums, he KNOWS they’re in TROUBLE.

Nick Saban looked tired during the game. I don’t watch every Bama game but that’s the first time I’ve ever noticed that demeanor from him. Never threw the headset. No big tantrums. Just resignation.

I have it on good authority their staff knew where they stood personnel wise before kickoff

And it has been a long time since they felt that way

Here’s my useless $.02:

1)The score was not indicative of LSU’s overwhelming offense & offensive coaching strategy. Nearly unstoppable.
2)Bama & particularly #22 Harris were gathering steam at the end. Maybe the Tigers were starting to fatigue. ??
3) Both teams had missed opportunities so it’s a draw in the what if’s scenarios.
4) LSU finally looked equal & even better than Bama in many categories. Talent levels were nearly a draw with LSU gaining.
5) It was a great game. Especially since Tigers won.

I don't think so. We finished strong but we let up a little in the 3rd quarter. I would love to know how it would have played out had LSU scored on their 1st drive of the 2nd half.

The only time Saban really does this is when they're ahead by like 30 late in the game and a backup makes a simple mistake like miss a block or assignment.

He hasn't flown off the handle during close games or when they were losing in a good while. At least not that I've seen.

I guess the trick was we're going to snap the ball when you're not expecting it, as opposed to every other play when they know when we're snapping it.

He didn't look mad, he looked frustrated the whole game.
