Can someone with more insight than me shed some light on the story of this rivalry. I feel like the "rivalry" feeling is mostly on the Arkansas side. They just don't feel like a natural rival. When is the last time a big name recruit from either state went to the other school? I sure can't remember. It takes more than Proximity to make a rivalry, Sure they beat us this year and I hated it but not any more than any other loss this year. Is there a history lesson I need in this rivalry to understand the point?

No it was an attempted forced rivalry by the SEC, since neither of us have a true rival anymore. Too far apart and no commingling of fanbases regularly.

LSU and aTm will be more true rivals.

LSU and aTm have a historic basis for a rivalry on several levels...

It was an artificiality created by the conference to make the game more interesting. Arky bit, we didn't. It's the same exact thing with A&M.

Exactly.

The A&M-LSU one is just as fake and contrived as the Arky one.

Sad ting is, I had gotten used to playing Arky on Black Friday afternoons. I wish that new/contrived "tradition" would continue.

They put up a billboard in NWA.

It reads, "The Boot is home"

They care

we don't have a "rivalry" with Arkansas. We do have very good games with them every year, but it's not a rivalry. Just a tough game. Big difference.

Correct

Wrong...we played A&M every decade, multiple times from 1940's to the mid 1990's. We have only played A&M 7 fewer times than Ark, but that also factors in playing Ark 20 straight years after they joined the conference.

I'm aware that we have history with A&M, but that doesn't make it a rivalry. We've played MissSt more than any other team in the country, and I don't consider that a rivalry. I don't give a flying shite about Texas A&M. You can pretend to if you like, but I'd bet most LSU fans feel the same way. A&M is Texas' little brother--not LSU's rival.

At-least there is recent competition for recruits between LSU and aTm. I can't remember the last time a big name from Louisiana even had Arky in there top 5 much less signed there. Also can't recall the last time LSU made an actual big push for a recruit from Arkansas. Not saying that the aTm rivalry is on the same level as the Ole Piss or Bama game but it feels more natural than Arkansas.

I really wish Arkansas would leave and go to the Big 12. They're annoying.

There's nothing artificial about the LSU/aTm rivalry.

agree

I think if A&M had joined the conference 20 years ago instead of Ark people would feel much differently now about A&M being a rival. The Ark thing is very one sided, but the A&M game will not be overtime. Just MO

It was pretty heated back in the day, and it's still pretty itense in places due to the number of Aggies in Louisiana. However, I didn't realize that LSU has played Arkansas more time than it's played aTm.

I remember we played the aTm annually from the 60s thru the 90s, it seemed. Gave us our only loss in 69, I believe on a "hail mary" when Norm Hodgkins (sp) went for the interception instead of the knock down...anyway, I digress...my father told me, one time, that we used to play Arky all the time at State Fair Stadium (the Independence Bowl now), especially in the 50s, I thought. Just my recollection....

We dropped A&M in the mid 90's because we sucked. Then played Arkansas 20 straight years when they joined the SEC, without playing A&M.
