I was out of town during Thanksgiving and just watched the whole game against Arkansas for the first time. Rickey Jefferson was starting at FS over Martin and Thompson. Does anyone know that was due to injuries to the other two or simply a coaching decision? I think this kid played okay against a&m but was he ready to start just yet? He was picked on several times in this game, particularly the second Arkansas TD play where he entirely bought into the play-action and forgot his zone, with a few missed tackles following it. To be fair, he did have a spectacular pass breakup early in the drive and showed his potential, but you can tell he is still as raw as a frosh and needs to put on A LOT of weights.

I have kind of a mixed opinion on him starting at this point, so what is your thoughts of him starting already and who we should go with at FS from this point on?

They said after the game that Martin and Thompson are out for the year w/ injury.

I think Martin has seen his days as a starter pass by.

He certainly didn't look ready to play. I hope that it was out of necessity, but with the love that coach Myles has with every thing Jefferson, who knows?

Any chance we will see Jefferson on offense in the future? Maybe some special packages at QB?

Martin is not nearly talented enough. Thompson was/is over rated. To think that some thought that was a good option when we lost Landon Collins, is now just sad.

Ricky is way more talented.

What about Micah Eugene? Hurt too? Although Mills actually looked pretty good out there, comparatively.

Thompson and Martin have been hurt so RJ was put in last week against aTm. Most of the tards here were loving it and thought it was the reason our D was good last week - it wasn't. RJ is basically invisible out there and is a major non-factor. He's not ready yet.

I'd expect Thompson to replace Loston at SS and look for one of the new guys to step in at the FS spot... maybe even Jalen Mills filling the position in order to get Rashard Robinson on the field.

Ronald Martin is a soft hitter and is not good in coverage, I would expect him to be a back up of some sort.

His raw talent sure was not on the same level as LC, but I am not quite sure if it is because he is overrated from the first place or our secondary coach hasn't been able to help him develop. Cause not just him, Dwayne Thomas, Jalen Collins&Mills have all been sort of a let-down since their careers. Loston was playing well these last two games, but his overall career has also been a disappointment. One cannot simply attribute all these player's underachievement to lack of talent.

That's my question, too. Where has he been? Micah Eugene was used a lot in the nickle package at the beginning of the season but gone disappeared lately. Anyone knows?

You just never know with les miles. Maybe that's why he wears number 29 the 2nd coming of the Jefferson number 9 at QB?

Mills's interception came from him playing the safety position, so that might actually be a good fit for him.

Jefferson obviously isn't really ready to be a full-time player yet. Even on the pass breakup, he got himself turned around and had difficulties judging the ball in the air. He could have easily intercepted that if he would have read it better.

I think he has the physical tools to be a solid player at some point, but he may need to get a little bigger too, because he was really struggling in run support.

Jefferson is going to be a very solid player in the future. Just not ready yet. Still learning the position as he was mainly used as a WR at Destrehan. He was a damn good one too.

the 2 didnt dress. A shame, but coaches got to play the best players. RJ will be a good one. he is just on another level than the other guys, his speed is un matched at the safety position.

ineligible for the first 6 games for some reason, not sure if it ever got reported. Saw him on special teams vs. Arky.

Mills brief time at safety friday was probably some of the better play there this season.
